I will ride this track someday, it may not be this season but it will be ridden by me and I will love it. That second pic really sells the track. It reminds me of VIR a bit, and VIR is an amazing track.

I feel spoiled that there are so many great tracks around that are within a reasonable (sub 8hr driving) distance. Mid-O is where I start to draw the line on that at 8-12hrs depending on traffic

Tony's test run video from yesterday, not at pace. This shows the cone chicane they're setting up at turn 2... not going to dampen the fun at all, looks like.

I hope they clean the dirt up and plant some grass.

I didn't see any pot-a-jons along the track. What do you do if you have to go and you're half way into your lap?

Y'know those stories Keith Code tells about "no brake" races down the canyons in California? (Engine off, start at the top of hill, first one to the bottom wins.)

This place would be great for that....

GREAT CAESAR'S GHOST! WHAT A TRACK!!!!!!

Start saving money now. Plan vacation now. You MUST go to Palmer.

The videos do not do this place justice. The elevation change is tremendous. There are three big bowl turns that are SUPER fun. Smooth. Grippy. Just.... nineteen kinds of awesome.

Still a work in progress from a facilities standpoint and there's some anti-track sentiment amongst the locals, so take care to be nice. Don't speed, buy something to support the local economy, all that good stuff.

Must agree fully! Could not be more fun. We were there early and got to paddoc on the pavement but a lot of folks had to pit fully in the dirt. Plenty of space since the entire facility is huge and you cannot fully appreciate the altitude untill you have to run up the hill brake hard then full lean over right for a full 180 then accelerate as you stand it up still climbing and back to full lean left. Apex is in the nose bleed area! So many blind turns where you are on the sidewall driving in deep looking back over your sholder for the apex! incredible! My most favorite track, I will be going back there ASAP!

Gosh darn-it!!! Now I gotta go ride, I guess I will start planning my trip now. How does Aug 10/11 sound tentatively? Dangit... Jade might be back to school on those dates, dunno for sure though.

Glad ya'lls had a good time. How did ya git yer helmets off with smiles that big? lol Draggin' knee while downhill on the gas is a wonderful thing. Round my parts, we only get to experience it at Pitrace and on my one trip to VIR.

So where are the pix and vids? What groups ya'lls riding in now?

ps: Common Ben, your invited! This time I will make the long drive to come to your area.
pps: And the next big question is to bring a 250 + r6 or both my r6's? Hmmm..... maybe if I ride mah 250, I can set and hold a track record for a lil while at least. hahahahahahah

Can't wait to ride witcha ya'lls again.

EDIT: @choneofakind - I can pick you up along the way.... hint hint.

Well if its Aug 10-11 i guess ill have to set it on my calendar too. Were all still red group, Tony is running 3 groups instead of 4 at this track, so 20 min sessions. I only went on Monday, should have called out and went tuesday but its OK. I have my vids up, this is my last session. Maybe ill put the 15T sprocket on the 250 instead of using the Ducati....this track REALLY makes you look far ahead in the corner.

Damn straight, this looks a lot like VIR elevation change

fun fact: josh hayes never even rolled off the gas through the right-left flick at the top of the roller coaster. It's where he found the 2-4s per lap over everyone else

staying wide open there is scary on a 300 the first time you do it, on an R1

In the video, look for the apex cones in the three big bowl turns (two left and one right). They're VERY VERY far around the corner. It's....

wait for it
wait for it
wait for it
wait for it
wait for it

There's the marker. GO!!!!

I got good video of nearly every session and have to sort through it all to see if any one of them is share worthy.

The Contour worked great (thanks Chris) and at $99 I'm buying another to stick on the tail for NYST this coming weekend. Split screen! Butt shots! Woo hoo!

Chris and Ben, let us know ASAP when you can lock in dates. Very much want to ride with you again, Chris, and would like to meet you, Ben.

Was thinking of July but you guys going would make the difference.

I need to do at least three more days with Tony to break even on my membership. So it's going to happen... the only question is when.

PS: I scored some slicks the week before the day -- takeoffs a couple of years old but in good shape -- and they are pretty freakin' cool, I must say.

Link to original page on YouTube.

Mid-afternoon session from the second day.

- I rode behind Ant (@ducati999) for the first lap so he could get some video of his body position.
- My lines suck. Ignore them. I can be much tighter and use more of the track.
- Also ignore the pit out for a lap in the middle. It had started to rain a bit... just a sun shower, but having never been on slicks I decided that extra caution was warranted.
- Notice that there isn't all that much traffic... that's why I'm still riding in red despite being faster than most. Don't feel frustrated yet, so no need to move up. Soon.
- Watch for those cones... notice how late they appear. You really have to look all the way through the turns.
- You can get a feel for elevation change because at several places you can see the jersey barriers locate at other parts of the track.

Nice!

Vision and hitting your markers is gunna be really important here. Without markers, it will be pretty easy to get lost in those long corners.

on the bright side, plenty of markers to use with the cliffs and trees and whatnot

I'd say you can figure out and be comfortable with a good line within a day here, then really get out and play on day two

Music makes a lot of difference!

Last session of the day I found myself behind a couple of Ducs going about my pace, so I decided to have some fun and chased them for awhile. I think Ant @Ducati999 was behind me, because at the tail end of the session he passed me.

You're already faster than this guy in the corners. On the 848 you'd be a beast.

Figger out what compound ya got. Slicks are a different animal of tire than street tires. If you don't keep the required heat in em as you lap, they can get sketchy as they cool down from warmers.

Working on locking the dates in. Gunna check if Kevin would like to come ride also.

dude I ride with, with TPM, towed 2 bikes in a trailer with a jetta. I was amazed. You'll lose some gas mileage but it's definitely possible. I know my mother's saturn vue can tow multiple bikes easily. I'm lucky to have a pickup that won't have any issues towing an enclosed trailer when I get one

Its not a saturn vue sadly (use to have one), its the saturn aura. I have the V6 but still, over 100k miles on the thing and i really need to get another 5 or so years out of it.

But i still will prob tow 2 bikes, wont be the first time. Maybe ill be lucky and one of my friends with a truck will actually track their bike (Andy you may have a deal on the chest/back protector, ill keep you informed)

My dad has one of those (V4 version) that's a car that does a lot more than it feels like it should at it's price point

I'd take a second bike, the weight difference between a trailer and one bike vs two bikes isn't too bad.

getting 5 more years shouldn't be an issue with that car, my dad's is over 200k (same w/my mom's vue)...they're a little annoyed that they can't get new saturns and don't know what they want to buy when their cars go up

Pirelli Diablo Superbike Pro, a couple of years old.

According to Pirelli these don't need warmers. You just ride one lap easy to let 'em warm up.

Tire wear was good. No tearing, no weirdness, so I guess the factory-recommended pressures were good at my pace. Which, truth be told, is not that high... I was - ahem - 27 seconds PER LAP slower than the advanced guys.

Much work yet to do here.

All I know is here:

http://www.pirelli.com/tyres/en-ww/m...-superbike-pro

Apparently the different compound availability came along a little bit after mine were made. I assume they're the equivalent of SC1.
