Exclamation Riding In a Blind Spot - A Quick Demonstration

Link to original page on YouTube.

It's the responsibility of the driver changing lanes to make sure it's clear, but in this case, you can hardly expect the driver to lean across the passenger seat to spot this rider.

Edit: Would help if the 4x4 driver used his indicator lights.

The biker placed him/herself in a bad location. When riding, we've got the most to lose, so we must be pay attention and avoid doing dumb things.

it may be the driver's responsibility, but when it comes down to it, you're sitting on an engine with wheels and they're in a 2-ton steel box. who do you think will win?

don't ride in people's blind spots, and don't give other people the opportunity to kill you.

Indicator lights are seldom used in contemporary America, Akima

Rolling 10 seconds in a blind spot and then moving forward is suicidal.

As always, good vid !!!

Passenger seat? Ah, @akima, look again, steering wheel is on the left. You can see it when paused for the arrow.

Agreed the rider is in a very bad spot and driver should have checked their blind spot before just jumping over into the next lane. But I always shake my head when anyone says "Oh I know I was in their blind spot but I was prepared for it." Its one thing to recognize and mitigate a risk, quite another to put yourself in a risky spot with the belief you'll react in time.

I know, just as I know I'd be a total dunce if I even tried driving on roads that are "backwards" to what I am used to. I'd need a big fat Idiot sign to warn the normal folks to stay away from the lunatic American.

this is part of why I hate driving cars, because I have to double and triple check my blind spots whilst craning my neck to do so because there's... well, a car in the way

Add to it rear seat headrests! I hate those when I end up with small cars and they are usually the first thing to get pulled! Perfectly good rear side windows to open up the blind spot and this big fat lump blocking the view. Ugh!

That is precisely why I find it preferable to either pass a car quickly or stay behind it by several feet if I am in a neighboring lane. Many people change lanes without any thought during rush hour believing that it will somehow get them to work or home quicker. Ironically it feels safer to split lanes between two cars (because they're not going to change lanes into another car) than it is to sit in the far left lane (or worse a middle lane) and cruise at a constant speed of traffic matching the speed of the car to your right as a result of said flow of traffic.
