starting problems
Hi all, Just bought an 04 ninjette that was wrecked, no major damage that I have found yet. Bike ran before the wreck but doesn't start now.
What I've done so far: New battery, checked all fuses, checked the neutral switch and neutral light is on, Getting power to starter relay and consistent power when the start button is engaged on both sides of the relay. The starter just clicks once but does not turn the starter motor. I'm thinking the starter motor is toast! Don't know if this is relevant but the clutch will only engage 1st gear, not up to 2nd from what I can tell, but haven't been able to get it to start. |

try push starting it... the rear tire has to be spinning for the positive neutral finder to let you get into 2nd/beyond

can't push start it yet the rear wheel is rubbing on the caliper mount on the top right side of the swing arm, it not bad but i need to get new chain tensioners to straighten out the wheel so it won't rub!

thats a great idea. but what about the starter motor, is it toast? I can't get any power to the starter motor itself, but the wire to the starter motor has power.

Sounds like it is toast. If you're able to pushstart it then that I would be even more suspect. If you have a friend w/ a 250 you might ask to borrow theirs to double check. If not maybe check the connection is solid before looking for a used one...

--edited for stupidity--
when removing and replacing the starter, the little post can get rotated, if its rotated just right it will short and not turn the motor. try removing the motor and and checking resistance... try connecting it directly to a battery
