Things to do in Maine

Hello & top of the day to everyone.

Anybody had some special time spent in the Ste of Maine?

I am planning a trip up in Maine, mostly maybe by the coast in June or July with wifee & our 4 yr old. I know, the water might still be cold but what other things could be done up there. Seems like Arcadia Natl Park might be one of them but what about quaint villages, light house visits? Any nice friendly, local restaurants to suggest?

York is decent to visit but is usually always crowded. They have a zoo/amusement park and there is an ice cream shop at the top of some cliffs called Brown's ice cream, its amazing. There are numerous light houses across Maine too.

Portland Head Light is a busy but good lighthouse to visit, just due to the history there. Acadia and specifically Cadillac Mountain are great places to visit. If you're not into huge crowds I'd stay away from Old Orchard Beach, though the pier food is great but expensive.

Same could be said about ogunquit (sp) with crowds but that is another nice area

I'd go to Great Lost Bear over OPT in Portland

Went to Bar Harbor 2 years in a row. (Summer 08 and 09)

Kick ass, it's amazing there provided you like the outdoors. Most of our time we we're hiking, biking or star gazing.

The hikes go from easy and scenic to intense and frightening.



Some hikes like the ladder trails are on false step and a 100+ foot drop

But i think by far my favorite would have to be sunsets there. They're absolutely breathtaking.

So in all I say if you like outdoors Maine is AMAZING, if you want to relax or shop well Bar Harbor is a big no. On another note, I will on day go back to Acadia National Park with my 250R. The roads there are beautiful to cruise on. Mountain rd to the top of the mountain is heaven.

Rocket, GREAT shots of Maine. I love it here. If you get to Belfast (on the coast) look me up. Stop at the Harbormaster`s office and ask about Alex with the green Ninja. Harbormaster rides--has a Duc. I do know about all the good reataurants,sights,etc,

I wouldn't recommend eating lobster around mid-end July though. It's soft shell and not as good but if you can get cheap it's worth a taste. Our plant buys Maine lobster and stop in July cause the quality isn't good enough to meet our quality standards.

Thank you all for the suggestion. I am so behind on this trip but with all these advice, it makes it so much easier. Thank you all for the suggestion & if I do get to Belfast, I'll surely look you up Alex.

Gotta get some reservations for lodging at the most tomorrow night.

Took a trip from Augusta to Acadia 5-27. Stopped at the Penobscot Observatory bridge, rode up Cadillac and arount the Park Loop Road, stopping at the attractions. Perry's nuthouse on the way back (Saw a green 250R zip by as I was sitting in the parking lot there)

If you are anywhere near Lorain You gotta see this .
Land speed racing on a 3 mile concrete SAC base runway. 1.5 miles to go and 1.5 to stop. It is the second annual race up there.

But this is the thing. There is a guy from Florida named Bill Warner. He has broken every track record and his bike is to fast for Maxton. He went 272 more than once and has trouble getting it stopped.
He went 268 in Texas and the rear wheel was spinning to an indicated 300 mph. Both Texas and Maxton are two miles long. One mile to go and one mile to stop. Lorain is 1.5 miles of full throttle on a 600 hp Hyabusa. This is going to be History in the making.

It is all ready the fastest sit on motorcycle on earth . In July it will have 50% more room to accelerate and plenty of room to stop safely.

I don't know your style but you could try this place. It is right next to a bike dealer/shop with tons of bikes and gear, if you need a moto fix while on vacation.

top speed is 117 for a 250 ninja.

I was just there yesterday! The parts manager at my work had the oil changed in his HD so I rode there with him and checked out the buells. I was going to post but I figured the OP was looking for something along the lines of the 250 for a rental. Great find though! I'll keep looking too ironglory
