2004 Starting Problem

The bike has an issue with starting. I got caught out back in Feb. and just now getting to work on her. She just completely died on me. I thought that maybe water had gotten into it and corroded the insides, but I took the switch apart and it looks new on the inside.

I am starting to think wire/contact because I can take the housing apart from the back(like in the first picture) and when I press the start button it will start right up every time.

*****here are some photos of the switch******

Here is a video to show you all.

check the 30amp fuse to the starter solenoid. If that is okay, you could fiddle with the wiring to your starter button or just replace the whole thing on ebay.

you can also always test your current switch before replacing it

That is strange. My guess would be the switch as well. Your front brake reservoir cap is scratched. So I am guess the bike has been down on that side. Maybe the switch took some damage as well.

Get the new switch and see if that fixes it.

Yeah the previous owner said it fell over in a gravel lot. But I have owned the bike now for a little over 2 years and this just started to happen.

I have it at my dad's for now so hopefully I will be able to get over there tomorrow and look at the wiring to see if it is being pinched somehow or if there is a bare spot. Just seems like that would be the most obvious thing since it works fine if the housing for the switch is apart.

It looks like the red and yellow wires may be pulling. They seen to span the space where your handlebar would be in the housing when its on the bike. Maybe thats the issue and your kill switch is kicking in? Just a thot. Would rather see an easy solution, rather than buying a whole new switch.

Alright guys/girls i fooled around with the bike today. I took the switch completely apart and cleaned everything with component cleaner, put her back together and also lubed up the throttle cable with some wd-40. The throttle is so much better now. It snaps back now and response is better. The starter button works fine now. I tried it about 10 times and it fired right up everytime.
