It looks nice but I think I would take the Ninja 1000 Kawasaki's sport touring bike. The street fighter look is cool but Idk how it fair for comfort and riding. the Ninja 1000 has the big windscreen and is made for long trips they say.

...and a larger gas tank, slightly different gearing, different bars, suspension mods, and a few other tweaks. The expensive hard parts (engine/drivetrain, frame, etc.) are shared.

The faired version is slightly heavier and has taller gearing, so if all factors are equal, the naked bike should be somewhat faster off of the line. But in all likelihood, the differences might be a tenth or two at most in the quarter mile.

Tuning is different as well. the z1000 is tuned like a super sport, It is made for power and speed. The ninja 1000 is tuned more for street/touring.

Those are the markets the two bikes are chasing, but all of the reviews are saying that the engines are essentially identical, with two exceptions: an intake resonator on the Z1000 that is removed on the Ninja 1000 for a bit less intake noise, and a speed-limiter that is in place on the Z1000, but removed from the Ninja 1000 due to its improved aerodynamics. It's certainly possible that there are minor tweaks with the ECU, but if so, the results don't show up in any real-world reviews or dyno test.

I like 'em both, but given the choice would always go for the faired bike.

And I would always go with the naked one. Tastes vary, but with a good deal, I would take a Ninja 1000 with no reservations. Both very nice.

But naked bikes rock. Unless you're going 90 MPH. Then faired bikes rock...

The Z1000 is a beautiful bike, but given the choice, I'd pick the Ninja 1000 over it any day of the week. I'm not against owning a naked bike, though.

Honestly, given the choice, I'd avoid both. I don't think I'll ever own anything over 600cc, unless I can nab a Ducati 848 Evo someday.

I think you got it the other way around on the speed limiter. From what I read its on the Ninja 1000 but not the Z1000 because being naked its essentially limited because of aerodynamics. You can only go so fast on that thing before you pull your arms and neck outta their sockets...

lol well they detuned the 1000 its power is similar to a 600cc. I dont know what the z1000 has for power but you know for me its not about speed its getting to and from where I wanna go safely and at my speed. oh and comfort lol

again, its detuned if you compare to SS. Top end performance/top speed may be similar to a 600 but everywhere in the low to midrange the 1000 has 60% more torque...

On the street that is what matters, daily driving on a SS isn't sitting at the top 30% of the powerband... For what its made to do the Ninja 1000 will eat the 600cc SS.

Yep, you're right; it's the Ninja 1000 with the limiter, not the Z1000. I had read it just a little too quickly the first time...
