Speedometer not working...
Ok so my speedometer (mph) is not working but my tack and fuel are. I was riding back to my house one day when i noticed my tach and speedometer were not working so i stopped by a gas station and checked the gauge wire. I then noticed a metal wire wrapped around my speed sensor thing and rim. I was shocked and removed it immediately. I turned it on and vualla, my tach started working. I started to move and i noticed the speed still doesn't work. I checked if they were tightly screwed and they were, so i decided to go home and work on it tomorrow since its dark and im tired as f*ck.
Anyone know what is going on before i inspect it tomorrow? I know its a common problem but i would like to make it more clear for myself on what i should be trying to do or find. I posted how the wire looks below, if it matters. Also the tach wires are exposed because i made it into a streetfighter. Just fyi's

The original mechanism is a mechanical cable. IIRC, it's a sleeved stranded metal cable like the clutch and throttle cables. One end has a beveled pin that fits into the gear on your front wheel and the other end has bigger end that fits into the back of your gauges. It's very hard to get it to thread correctly with the gauges when screwing it on unless you hcae all the fairings and such off the bike, but you did say that it's a street fighter.
Anyway, I know you were working on installing an aftermarket gauge with a magnetic speed pick up instead of the mechanical way the stock gauges do it. Did you simply leave it disconnected since then? Did one end or the other twist off, allowing it to slide out of the sleeve? It should not be cable to slide out of the sleeve, IIRC. |

Are you using the stock dash or an aftermarket one?

Funny story, I returned it since the tach wasnt working, he never received it after a month. So he just gave me my money back. 2 weeks ago it came back, box was all messed up and it said return on it because they didnt find the address. I must have written it wrong or something. Anyways its here now sitting and i might one day give it to a pro with gauges and electronics who can make it work or something. So i got my money back and the gauge.

The metal wire that was stuck to my rim from god knows what and how, probably just caught on there while riding, cut the metal cable in the rubber tube which is the "speedometer cable". The picture of the metal wire in the first post is what cut the speedometer cable in my last post. Hope that clarifies it.
Now i have to wait like 5 days for a new one... Unless someone sells that cable in Dallas lol Just a quick question, if anyone knows, the speedometer cables are all the same for 08-12 right? Edit: the third picture on the right is the same cable as the other 2 next to it, but just without the rubber, i removed the rubber to show yall.

You were very lucky because that vagabond wire could have caused a lot of damage to your leg or chain or more.
I am not sure, but I would say that it is the same cable for all models. You could verify the part number in Ronayers website.

No replacement. I received the 93$ i paid for it because i showed proof of tracking number and a paper showing it was shipped. I dont have new gauges yet, ive been using the same old one. I painted some of it so it blends in like in the picture. Im planning to buy a Trail Tech Vapor or something at the 100$ range in summer when i have the 100$ to spare.
