I tried the zip tie method and it worked like a charm, all you have to do is squeeze them close and zip it tight unlike some videos you see of people standing on the tire. It went on in 30 seconds literally with windex as a lube, which was a whole lot faster than it came off.

Zip ties are made out of nylon. I have an awfully difficult time believing they'd scratch a wheel.

Wheels are powder coated and powder coating is made of plastic.

Yeah, but I'd wager that the powdercoat on wheels is harder than the plastic they make zip ties out of. Regardless, just be careful when removing them and it doesn't seem like it should be a problem, to me. I can think of much bigger threats to the wheel than zip ties in that process.
