2012 250ES Repair Issue

Do you ever hear a high pitched, whining noise coming intermittently from the front fork? Does it sound like dirt caught in the disc brake? Well, that's what I thought it was. Unfortunately it turned out to be a lot more serious than that.

Bottom line: The speedometer/odometer, case assembly, meter gear, and the light all had to be replaced. Fortunately my bike was still under warranty, so I didn't have to pay the $600 cost to repair it.

If you're interested in more details, contact me. I'll do my best to explain the events leading up to the eventual part failure, and my strategy for getting it covered under the warranty.

Lesson learned! Don't assume, get it checked out. And again, for the record, Kawasaki DID cover the repair under the warranty. Even if your bike is out of the warranty period, you could easily build a case for it being covered as a manufacturer defect: "Normal wear & tear" don't apply to this type of problem.

Hope that's helpful! Good luck and ride safe!
