How far on a tank?

I chickened out as it clicked over 300 miles. What's the furthest you've pushed it on a "normal" Ninjette.

EDIT: I put in 4.35gal after this.

I think 260 is the most I've ever gotten, but it was a long day of very slow roads.

Back in 2011 when I first purchased my 04 Ninja 250, I rode it as a commuter to school from my house to school, 36 mi. one way, mostly backroads speed 35-45 mph, usually hit the reserve by 280-290 mi. on tripmeter and put in about 3.5-3.6 gal each fill-up.

Nowadays, I commute twice a week from PA to NYC, 120 mile one way, sustained highway speed and 10-11k rpm. During the week I commute from Hoboken to Brooklyn, lots of stop-n-go, hard acceleration from stop and sitting in Holland Tunnel traffic, swtch to reserve at about 180 mi. on tripmeter, and put 3.5 gal each fill-up, still.

Typically I nearly red line it in every gear up until 5 over the speed limit, then click all the way through to top gear.

I downshift as many gears as needed to execute a pass as quickly as possible, and then back up to top gear.

On this tank I did about 80 miles of 100mph @ ~ 10,800rpm to keep up with traffic (yes, at night, the people drive like maniacs between CoSprings and Denver on I-25. This tank has seen above 65mph for the vast majority, and I think that's the streamliner's limit, as aero becomes a big factor above 65mph? I could be wrong on this. Aren't all the Vetter/economy challenges limited to 60 or 65mph?

Factors which might be helping: I have a modified airbox, a slip on, a valve cover vent block off plate, a disabled counter-balancer and a double bubble windshield.

I'm running 96 main jet's, 2.75 turns out on idle/mix, dyno jet needles with clip on 3 setting and stock idle jet. She purrs like a kitten!

If I drove like a grandma, I could probably have seen 350 miles, as I love hammering the 250 - it's why I don't like big bikes, cause you don't get the same sense of "riding" that you do with the 250, squeezing every last bit out of it while still staying semi-legal.

Cool

Specification 65 mpg is hard to reach for street riding dealing with traffic.
My bike is naked and it consistently runs 55 miles of highway on one gallon, keeping around 80 mph (at speedometer).

Forced by scarcity of gas stations and poor planning during a long trip, I went from full tank to reserve to stalling engine in 265 miles.

I still did not have to walk the couple of miles remaining to the next gas station because I leaned the bike to the left very far allowing the remaining fuel trapped on the right bottom pocket of the tank to flow to the petcock.

I usually get around 180 before I fill up

most I've ever reached was 240 or so of pure commuting

I did an endurance race on one tank that was around 152mi and that almost killed the tank so at race pace you can probably get around 160-180mi out of a tank of gas

Spooph big compliment
With my FI-250 I don't get much more than 250 miles, that's what all the guys in Germany also talk about and those over there with the 300 even get less.

My 04 Ninja 250 has fuel switch, on/off/reserve, good for at least another 20 miles after switching to reserve.

Actually, I wish the Gen 2's had a standard on/off/reserve petcock. It would make it so much easier to fab and install an aux fuel tank, shut the main tank off and burn the fuel out of the aux tank first. Then switch to main tank (on) and then to reserve if needed.

The other day I rode my 2012 Ninja 250R SE until it ran out of fuel starting with a full tank (of course I was carrying a fuel container to pull off this stunt ).

The fuel gauge begins to read 'empty' at 290 km / 180 miles, but there has to be about 5 liters / 1.3 US gallons remaining.

It went 381 km or 236 miles !

381 km / ~22.5 km per liter = 17 liters or 4.5 US gallons. The tank capacity is rated at 4.8 US gallons. Typically there is a residual amount remaining that isn't consumable.
