Ninja 300 Rough idle

I have a 2013 Ninja 300. Did a top end install as I had lost compression. Put it back together and it now starts but it takes a little bit to start. Then once it starts it won’t idle unless you hold the throttle and it runs a little rough. No ticking just doesn’t run smooth or idle. Now it won’t rev past 1000rpm with throttle usage. Any ideas?

One possibility is your cams are not timed properly.

Vacuum leak
Measure compression to verify your fix

I would think a vacuum leak would be most pronounced at low throttle and fairly insignificant at high throttle. Brou110 says he can't get it over 1,000 RPM even when he opens the throttle.

Really severe vacuum leak?
Throws off MAP sensor.
Oh yeah, measure MAP sensor output voltage at idle.

Because you did top-end work - I'd start there.

As noted, check the cam timing. Also check valve clearances.

Something isn't assembled/adjusted properly.

Also measure all sensors and their wiring:

- IAT and continuity of wire between sensor and ECU connector
- ECT and continuity of wire between sensor and ECU connector
- MAP and continuity of wire between sensor and ECU connector
- TPS and continuity of wire between sensor and ECU connector
- Altitude sensor and continuity of wire between sensor and ECU connector
- tip-over sensor and continuity of wire between sensor and ECU connector

Something's different between when you disassembled engine vs. after re-assembly.
