Despite both bikes having a 30.5" seat height, mine sits lower...I think the cbr250r's suspension needs to settle in. I couldn't flat foot the cbr, but I can the ninja.

The clutch lever on the cbr250r is VERY smooth and light, makes handling the friction zone so much easier. Every ninja I've tried had a little bit stiffer clutch lever.

The sound of the cbr is much deeper, while the ninja is a bit higher pitch. Most likely due to the single cylinder vs dual cylinder configuration.

cbr's exhaust is ugly

cbr's gauge cluster is way nicer(what modern day bike isn't....)

Haven't tried riding the cbr yet so I can't compare that, but I'm sure you can find plenty of comparison reviews of that elsewhere.

Same here. Although I am a little jealous of the fuel injection and antilock brakes. Nevertheless, the honda is a bit pokey according to the reviews. One reviewer said something like "The honda cbr 250 has no problem accelerating up to interstate speed if you wait long enough." But then the idiot disqualified the ninja 250 just because it didn't have fuel injection and gave first place to the honda. Some people ....

Nice! I like your color choice as well as your choice to get the Ninja over the CBR.

thanks for the comments everyone.

The CBR(nonabs) was $4200 OTD. They are selling like hotcakes here though. The dealer got 2 more CBR250R and they sold within the next day on a first come first serve basis.

Overall I like both bikes.

Personally, the fun factor is all important. After you and your brother have been riding your bikes a while, swap for one ride. Then count the seconds that it takes him to start looking to buy a Ninja.

Honda used to make an older CBR250 that had 4 cylinders and was quite comparable to the Ninja. It even got better mileage at >100mpg. I'm not sure why they dropped the ball on the new CBR250R. Its top speed is allegedly only 90mph. That sucks.

You definitely got the better/funner ride.

Keep us posted on the comparison and can you post more pics of a side by side comparison. From the pics I've seen the CBR looks more narrow and those silver wheels are fugly.

rode the cbr over the weekend, but mostly just around the neighborhood. Didn't take any corners hard or get past 6k RPM. The only thing I noticed was that its bottom end has a lot more torque(relatively speaking ) than the ninja.

The new CBR 250 has slightly more low end torque than the Ninja. Kindof like a cruiser. But the Ninja easily kicks its butt in the end. You do have to ride the ninja differently. It has to be run at a higher RPM, but the honda is simply not serious competition with the ninja.

You should probably read this link:

Specifically the part that says:
Quote:
The Honda 250’s best 0-60 mph time is 8.5 seconds, but the Kawasaki trips the lights with a best time of 7.7 seconds. This is backed up on the dyno, at least in terms of top-end horsepower, as the Honda produces 22.66 hp at 8600 rpm, while the Kawasaki twists the drum to the tune of 26.34 hp at 11,000 rpm. However, the Honda takes top honors in terms of torque, boasting 15.23 lb-ft at 7100 rpm compared to 13.42 lb-ft at 9900 rpm for the Kawi.
The pregen ninja 250 blows both of them away (37.4 hp) and does 0-60 in 5.75 seconds. The honda also has a top speed of only 90 mph which makes it problematic on freeways. Also, I previously thought that the honda got better gas mileage, but the numbers that are coming in say that its about the same as the newgen ninja.

The pregen has nowhere near 37 hp. It typically dynos at 1 hp more than the new-gen (25 instead of 24 on most dynos). The increased acceleration is partly due to that small increase in power, and also due to significantly less weight (25 - 30 lbs).

I didn't buy that figure either, but went looking online and found quite a few sources/reviews/tests quoting that the pregens had 36HP. How they got those figures was not explained, though.

You guys are sooooo jealous.

The pregen has smaller diameter tires. I suspect that has something to do with the pregen's 37 HP at the wheel. Prehaps it moves the torque curve around enough to make optimal HP.

Usually the handlebars. Otherwise we would fly off when we twist the throttle.

The pre-gen does not have 37 at the wheel, no matter how many times you repeat it.

Here's a pretty typical dyno run for a pre-gen:

Link to original page on YouTube.

Which made 26.1 hp at the rear wheel. To get well into the 30's, it takes significant motor work ($$$$).

The differences in output from the the pre-gens to the new-gens aren't nearly as significant as portrayed by some folks on the board. Having owned both, I know that the older bikes feel like they have more of a top-end rush, while the new ones have a little more torque in the mid-range. But it's really minor. We're talking about a very small difference in hp across the board.

To continue the discussion, it might make more sense to take it over to this thread, which was solely about comparing/contrasting the two generations (rather than this thread, which started out as a "pictures" thread).

Actually, the description of the video said that it got as high as 28 HP in spite of the carbs being incorrectly adjusted. Not a very fair test IMHO. I'd like to see a dyno run where everything is properly adjusted. Anyhow, an extra 1 or 2 HP isn't going to make a pregen do 0-60 a full 2 seconds faster.

In any event, both Ninjas are better than the CBR 250.
