Cool 35 years ago

Evel Knievel attempted to jump 13 London Buses at Wimbley Stadium. He thought the takeoff ramp was inadequate but did not want to disappoint the crowd of 80,000. Knievel said: "I knew I wasn't going to make it, but what was I supposed to do - give 'em their money back?"

Like him or hate him, the man had stones.
