No tappet locknut.... those are only the pre-gen bikes. The new ones use bucket and shims. I got a nice set of hot-cams shims off ebay for ~$30 or so.... I have every size and will probably never have to buy another shim as long as I own the bike. I recommend getting a kit like this, instead of ordering individual shims.
There is no need to replace the gasket. It is rubber, and meant to be reused. Happy shimming!

Good to hear about the gasket. Saved me some money.
What size shims (diameter) did you order? According to this site (http://www.cyclebuy.com/shopping/hot...imkits_748.htm), it's 7.48mm for the EX250. But on HotCams website (http://www.hotcamsinc.com/default.aspx), I can't find a listing for 2010 EX250 in the drop down selection. |

The kit I got was the bigger package, listed for $80 on that first site. It comes with three of each size, rather than five, and came in 2 of those nice plastic cases. Based on the shims I pulled out of mine, and the packages they list on the cycle buy page, I would say go with HC-7270295 (2.70mm-2.95mm). That will save you $40, and was exactly the high and low sizes I needed. However, if you want to be darn sure you don't have to make another order with a job half done, it MAY be worth an extra $40 to spring for the big kit..... totally up to you. Of course ebay might work for you too... Maybe something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HOTCA...Q5fAccessories I just searched for "Hot Cams 7.48." I think I remembered incorectly.... I probably paid more along the lines of what is on ebay now.
