"Female Ridden" or "Female Owned"

What the hell does this even mean? Why is it a selling point?

Cuz you're almost certainly going to need their phone # to buy the bike? Digits!

the concept is that with less testosterone, women are less likely to be abusive to the ones they love

allegedly a female owned bike hasn't been ridden hard. I ignore it as a selling point though since it doesn't matter who owns it, what matters is how it's been taken care of.

Agreed. I personally think it's rather sexist and insulting to put that in an ad, as if I'm supposed to think women are any less abusive on a motorcycle than guys. C'mon.

Pshhhhawwwwww

Just because a bike is female owned, doesn't mean it's not ridden hard.

My bike is female-owned and the previous owners definitely rode this bike hard!

Lol I think 'female owned' goes along the same lines of insurance being lower if you are female. Less testosterone poisoning.

As others have said, playing the female card implies that it's been treated less harshly.

However, as has also been stated, that's fairly sexist. I would tend to assume any female who's "not mean" to their bike would also be less likely to do the dirty work involved in properly maintaining it. And it also makes assumptions that puttering along and putting minimal miles on it (or whatever they're claiming) is better for the bike than riding it aggressively, which may or may not actually be the case.

"Adult-owned" is a similar tactic, implying that the rider was smart and reasonable and never did anything bad to it. I definitely have more disposable income now than I did at 21 when I bought my first Syclone, which results in being less likely to skimp on things (I'll spend $10 on the OEM gasket instead of gooping it up with $5 RTV, etc.), but I still know plenty of older people who are stupid about using/maintaining their toys.

Young males are known for being reckless, but simply being not young/male doesn't mean that you automatically don't have any of those unwanted characteristics of a young male. A young male can also be quite enthusiastic about his toy and not have tons of extra cash sitting around to fix screwups, so he ends up taking really good care of it to ensure that he can keep enjoying his toy. There's more to it than just the age and sex of the owner.

hardly ridden, 87K miles
babied at the drag racing track
owned by frat house, bought exclusively using beer can deposits
Totally rad looking paint job
lots of aftermarket parts
Chrome

- the opposite of female ridden lol

I don't know how many women all you above know/ but I bought my ex a dirt bike, she rode it once to learn the clutch and shift pattern.
She never touched it again.

So when I advertised it as female ridden- it was ridden once by a female haha

In general most women are not as involved in motorsports
so the wonderful claim of less wear and tear is female ridden

I Got lucky as can be with my current relationship
She wants to ride more than me

Its a selling point because it caters to a false stereotype. That of light usage, around town, minimal mileage, moderate care, moderate acceleration, etc.

Anyone who buys into that viewpoint may believe they have a few things in their favor. Other women who think being a woman means less usage may also buy into that the bike is still pretty and little has been done to it. Men who buy into that viewpoint may also believe that the woman owner either didn't want the bike to begin with or knows little about it and may want to just get rid of it for less than asking.

If I ever have to sell my bike, I am so putting down "female owned" and then listing, truthfully, the real condition of my bike. Shatter than stereotype in a nanosecond!

Honestly, I really didn't abuse my bike or ride it harder than it should be ridden, and I took really good care of it and got quality parts and did 95% of the maintenance and repairs myself... but that's not about being female, it's about being a person who values their possessions enough to take care of them in a reasonably decent way. Maybe they should be advertised as 'responsibly ridden and owned' instead of 'female ridden and owned' ... I know girls who are really stupid about their cars (they don't have bikes or ride), like letting a burning smell linger for months before their head gaskets blow (true story)... And I know guys who are meticulous and obsessive about taking care of their bikes.

Bottom line, when you go to buy a bike, look at the bike that's in front of you and judge it based on what you see, not what someone says it's been treated like. Judge for yourself whether it's been responsibly owned and maintained, you can probably see that, and if you can't, bring someone with you who would recognize signs of abuse. Then you don't have to worry about if it was male or female owned.

It means it will probably need a clutch replacement far before the service interval.

And yeah the testosterone thing.. Statistically speaking, women are less reckless. However, being reckless is not a destructive behavior, unless you're obsessively reckless and make mistakes resulting in destruction of life or property.

I would argue that girls can be ridden, but then I would need bedroom footage. :P

Here's something that I think fits given the direction the conversation has gone: I thought my last Ninja didn't really fall under the typical female designation most guys give their motorized toys.

I found it more fitting to be a him or he. I'd get lots of "so you ride a boy?" I think motorcycles are more like steeds. No one would ride mares exclusively. I had a stallion.
