upshifting noise, need some help.
I was out for a ride with my visor up and noticed a new noise i'm not use to hearing. While I'm shifting through the gears, i'm hearing a noise sorta like a goose, bruuuummmp, everytime i upshift. As far as I can tell it doesnt do it in 5th and 6th but I couldn't be sure because by that time there is so much wind and engine noise it would be drowned out.
Any ideas before I start tearing her down would be much appreciated. |

is it shifting cleanly into the next gear? could it be a misadjusted shift pedal and you're not lifting it high enough into the next gear?
does it make the same noise when downshifting? miles on bike and the last time the oil was changed? |

are you sure the clutch cable is properly adjusted? oh, you might want to get alex to put the f in the title for you

haha sorry guys, was in a hurry. 1900 miles, oil changed at 700 miles. Uhm, no noise while down shifting, just up. shifts clean, no lag in power or anything. I'll check the clutch cable tonight. At work right now shhhh

If it continues after the checks, why not just take it back to the dealer and let them fix it?

if within warranty term then dealer shouldn't chage to take bike for a ride and evaluate. worse thing should be the old "unable to reproduce problem". but shouldn't cost you any diagnostic charge.

No luck with the clutch cable, wishing right about now I was more mechanically inclined, but I did notice the shift lever was a tad loose just didn't have the right tool to tighten it. When I get that tightened if it still makes the noise I guess I'll take it in. I might have voided warrenty considering the bike has been dropped. Anyways thanks everyone for your help!

Even when the bolt that holds the shifter lever on is properly tightened, you will still see the shifter move. That's how it's able to shift.
 I think the tools in the kit that came with your bike includes wrenches that should fit that bolt.Just make sure you don't overtighten that bolt when you check it. I just read in another post it should be something like (IIRC) 105in/lbs... which is like 8 ft/lbs. dropping the bike should not void your warranty, unless damage from the drop is directly responsible for the noise you are hearing. |

Going out on a limb, but are your rpm's high enough when you are shifting? Too low, and the engaging dogs won't slide into each other smoothly. Just a thought.
