Who got the best deal?

I would like to start riding next spring/summer but I'm thinking I could get a better deal on a slightly used bike if I buy one now since the riding season is pretty much over in WI. I went to the dealership and they offered to sell me a brand new 09 for $3,500; which I think is already a pretty good deal. Do you guys think it's possible to find a used 08-09 for $2,500 on craigslist in the off-season months? The lowest I've found so far is listed for $3k, I emailed him but did not get a response yet. I'm also wondering what kind of deals you guys are/were able to find on your bikes.

We can't tell you what people are going to sell their used bikes for in your area. A brand new 09 for $3500 is a good deal. IMO you should be able to find a used bike for around 3k. But i've seen 08s listed for 3k with 3k miles on it. Paying $500 bux more of a brand new on...sounds like a done deal to me.

In my area... No. All the people selling just about any motorcycle are all smoking crack around here.

If you have the $3500+tax/tags and plan on riding it for more than 2 years, then go for it. If they start talking about set up fees and shipping charges walk out the door and buy a used bike.

There's one listed for $3k with 1,300 miles right now. It also has a 5yr extended Kawasaki warranty. I really wish that guy would respond.

I paid 3k for a dead mint 08 with less than 1200 miles on it. That was July 30. I now have nearly 4700 miles on it. The message here is mileage isn't that big a deal.

Good deal in my book.

I'd go for the new 09 for 3500 if I were you.

2500 ain't going to happen IMO. The only reason I scored my bike was timing... the guy had five other serious buyers at that price.

Small bonus if you can find a low-mileage 08... the 09 stock tires supposedly aren't that good, or at least not as good as the 08s. On the flip side, if you get a new bike you KNOW it will have been broken in properly because you'll be doing it yourself.

it really depends on you live, especially weather - snow and rain will cause lower prices. I got my 08 with 78 miles + 2 brothers exhaust for $3100. I think prices in socal tend to be a bit higher because of good weather and lots o traffic.

That'd be a great price, especially with the 5 year extended warranty.

Wow. $3000 is the lowest I've seen. $3,300 is more or less common and they usually have 4-6k miles.

Everyone laughs at me when I offer $2800 for an 09 with only a couple weeks left in the season to ride. Had some kid tell me that his 04 at $2600 is better than the 07 for $2350, I just replied good luck with the sale.

I would just go for the 09 for $3500. That's a huge deal for me. Buying new is always better anyway.
Imaging paying $4800 out the door, like I'm going to have to when I buy mine soon.
I guess it's because I live in South California. =/

^I paid 5k otd, at the end of May, the used prices in my area were around the same, at the time of purchase, so I don't feel too bad.

Brought her home today! 08 Kawi Green with 1330 miles for $2,500 with some cheap helmet included. There is one tiny crack around the right turn signal that is almost invisible, I think I'm going to epoxy it from the back of the fairing to prevent it from spreading. I think the auto parts store has some stuff made just for plastic, do you guys think this would work?

congrats! green is the fastest color... watch out!!

the crack can be fixed by using some matting behind the crack then saturating the matting with epoxy.

pictures... we need pictures.

What's matting? Can I buy that at the auto parts store? Any pics?

I'm going to wash the bike this weekend and get some pics up asap.

Any car parts store should have it, ask 'em for fiberglass mat used for bodywork.

I was thinking more like a fiberglass tape that you can cut to size and then resin/epoxy over, though any type of fiberglass matting/sheet would do. Tape just makes it a lot easier to work with and size to the crack at hand. Yep, any car parts or hardware store should have something you can use.

ABS solvent cement, if you are careful it will be very difficult to even see the crack. Apply it from the back side and it should pull into the crack by capillary action, when it sets it will be just about as strong as it was before the break. Get the type without fillers.

Has anyone seen new ones discounted? I have online, but I assume fees jack it right back up. Only reason I ask is 12 months ago these were at a premium. Today my dealer is still sitting on 3 but not discounting. However 500cc and up are all discounted.

I bet your dealer will have them in the spring, right next to the 2010 if they bother to order any.

You will only need matting if the crack is somewhere on the cowl that is bearing pressure otherwise the epoxy will be fine. How do I know? Because I have thrashed my bike a couple times and seamlessly pieced it back together.

I think they had 15 this year, so sold 12. Maybe 18 last year and sold 18 by this time. Local dealer sitting on a ton or R1 and R6 yammies.
