chain slack
Near 15k on my original chain. Highway miles mainly.
I've always pulled the chain every few weeks. Strange...hasnt needed it in past 5 or 6 weeks ( +/- 2000 miles). What do you think ? ready to break ? |

A well looked after chain should do 25K miles look at the teeth on the sprocket and the condition of the chain i.e. no rust no O rings sticking out, and it’s still good.

Measure the chain stretch, I believe 12.71 inches over 20 links is the service limit. Let me double check...
Okay the service limit is 12.72 inches (323mm) over 20 links with 20 pounds (10kg, 98 N) hanging on the bottom of the chain to keep it tense. Measure it in multiple spots though, in case the chain isn't stretching uniformly. Sources: My service manual

A close look in daylight shows a worn sprocket.
Really happened fast....adjusted the chain maybe a month ago and i must've pulled it too tight. I'm pissed. Lesson: dont pull chains at night by a flashlight becuz youre too lazy to get up 10 minutes early the next day before you ride. |

Does this mean you need a new sprocket?

Total bummer... Check the chain wear while you were at it? I'd be kind of iffy on keeping the chain regardless whether or not it was still within limits if that chain and sprocket were in the same set, might be better off getting a new set entirely, RK racing chains and Vortex sprockets would be my vote!

Yeah...new sprocket....hoping the Kawa chain was tougher than the Bike Bandit sprocket though. Once I make some room in my porch I'll bring it in and look at the chain real careful, I'm les concerned with the quality of the parts than I am with not paying attention to what I did in the first place and NOT realizing something was wrong
Anyway...I could remount the stock sprock till spring, WTF, yeah, that's what I'll prob do |
