Husqvarna has confirmed its intentions to enter the streetbike market, announcing at EICMA that two of its Vitpilen machines shown last year as concepts are slated to reach production as 2017 models. The Vitpilen 125 and 401 will be available in showrooms soon, according to the company. The company showed an additional concept street bike at EICMA, the Vitpilen 701. All three are single-cylinder minimalist naked bikes reminiscent of Husqvarna's Silverpilen street bike of the early ‘50s.

Scroll through the gallery above to see images of the Vitpilen 701 concept bike. Text from Husqvarna's press material follows and includes detailed information about the Vitpilen 701.

The VITPILEN 701 in one paragraph
The VITPILEN 701 is Husqvarna’s new street bike concept. It marks their return to street motorcycling and is the next step towards Husqvarna Motorcycles’ future vision. A sophisticated single-cylinder 4-stroke motor housed within a minimalistic yet high-tech layout - created to provide a raw, exhilarating and authentic riding experience. Functionality, simplicity and practicality were central to the basic idea and inspiration behind this bike. Its uniqueness is not limited to the aesthetics though, and will be instantly noticeable from the raw, natural and intuitive experience of riding it. The VITPILEN 701’s designers believed strongly that something fresh was long overdue in the motorcycling world, so they set out to create a bike that better captures the timeless thrill of the ride – with a level of simplicity that seems to have been lost amongst the flash, hype and hyperbole of modern motorcycle design. The VITPILEN 701 was created to reflect the progressive attitude and styling of a more modern and free-thinking breed of rider.

VITPILEN 401 vs VITPILEN 701 – WHAT’S DIFFERENT?
How does the VITPILEN 701 differ from the recently launched VITPILEN concept models? All models in the VITPILEN range are about a compact, simple, pure and raw riding experience. Where the VITPILEN 401 is a compact and cheeky little urban-styled charger, the VITPILEN 701 is more of a serious rider’s bike. They are fundamentally related and born from the same original design idea. Clearly they share many of their design cues and functional simplicity, but the VITPILEN 701 adds a serious dose of extra power and torque to the precisely crafted mix. The chassis, wheels and overall layout are suitably arranged to best house this more muscular motor. It is every bit as raw and simple in form as the first VITPILEN model, but with a sizeable extra-serving of beefed-up performance, increased functional simplicity and several progressive new design highlights.

FEATURES OVERVIEW

FUEL TANK
The primary function of this tank is to hold the fuel volume. Shaped for minimal intrusion into the rider’s natural riding position leg area, it provides a natural feel when seated. Fine attention to detail of the metallic finished tank sees it tastefully painted and subtly branded.

TANK TECH AREA
The fuel filler area has a precision-machined plate and closure. Above this is a tech area, which houses the start system as well as all other pre-ride control and selection functions.

EXHAUST AND BELLY PAN
The large diameter exhaust is straight-through and loud. It has a belly pan that acts both as a heat shield and a protector for the low-slung exhaust from road debris.

EXHAUST SILENCER
Made from aluminium and composite materials. The reverse cone at the rear has a unique design, created using sophisticated computational modelling to ensure maximum performance and unreal sound, with minimum weight and requiring the least possible amount of material.

REAR SPLIT WITH EXHAUST BRACKET
Visible from the side, a thin yellow line runs from the fuel tank and seat junction to the centre of the exhaust silencer. This is a central aluminium connector plate that fuses the rear section of the motorcycle with the front. It is a sturdy, simple and effective solution reminiscent of aerospace design.

CARBON COMPOSITE REAR SECTION
A one-piece carbon monocoque integrates the subframe, open-sided airbox and rear fender into one elegant structure that bolts onto the distinctive central aluminium connector plate.

SEAT
Sleek and minimal, this Neoprene moulded seat offers excellent grip, comfort and durability while remaining exceptionally discreet.

HEADLIGHT AND REAR LIGHT
Both the headlight and taillight are sleek, compact and functional. Their full LED construction makes them powerful, low maintenance and highly visible when lit up. The front light with its unmistakable signature shape is mounted onto an ultra - streamlined bracket.

DISPLAY
Taking cues from high-performance aircraft, the main part of the display is a circular dial sliced in half. With a clear and easily readable LED display surface, it has individual LED warning lights below the main dial for quick and simple notifications of the bike’s vital functions.

FOOTPEG UNIT
Slim and sporty, the footpeg unit has the rear brake lever integrated into it and is milled from high-grade aluminium, keeping it lightweight and strong, while delivering precise movement.

CLIP-ON BARS AND MACHINED CLAMPS
The unique bar mount and position balances the sporty posture of traditional street clip-ons, with a more relaxed naked-bike friendly riding position thanks to a slightly wider set bar sweep. This perfect balance is maintained by mounting the bars off the side of the top clamp, rather than below it.

An exciting new addition to the VITPILEN family, which will be produced to hit the dealer floors simultaneously with the 401, is the brand new VITPILEN 125. Officially unveiled at the 73rd EICMA Worldwide Motorcycle Exhibition the VITPILEN 701 is a real street bike that takes the next step in Husqvarna’s progressive vision of street motorcycling. Without following any industry rules or traditions, it is a bold step into new territory. Each and every part of this new bike concept was deeply questioned and carefully considered.

Inspired by the same unique design approach that runs through the VITPILEN family the Husqvarna VITPILEN 701 is an all-new and all modern large displacement single-cylinder motorcycle. It is a bike created to provide a raw, exhilarating and authentic riding experience.

With the expanded VITPILEN model range reinforcing the brand’s positioning in the street bike segment, Husqvarna Motorcycles will remain faithful to its own vision for building honest, state-of-the-art motorcycles.
