@adouglas - do check out the contour 1400 gps. Can be had on ebay for cheap. The gps + dashware can give you track maps and other cool stuff overlayed in your vid.

Interested in seeing how you safety wired it.

Looking at the Contours. Intriguing... especially since they've got Mac support.

Thing is, the GoPro ecosystem of mounts, accessories, etc. dominates. But then I spotted a Contour/Gopro mount adapter widget.....

Research commences.

So Contour folded and came back? Is that right?

I can think of several really interesting ways to use something like this. Attached to the rear swing arm spool, for example....

Yes and no, they were in process of shutting it all down and was an inch from death. Rumor has it that an investor came in to save the company. The options for mounting and the product itself is not the problem. They are getting majorly killed in two areas;

They don't know sh*t about marketing. - Get these cams in the hands of the people that will actually use it. Give em away if you have to. They will see it's a great cam at the price point. Grass roots if you will.

GET OUT OF THE SOFTWARE business! - Storyteller blows complete arse. Remove the limits and make as compatible with other video editors as possible and move on. And 100% for sure get rid of the requirement to upload the vid to the contour site to get at the gps data. Having to edit the video in dashware for the gps overlay and then again to make other changes totally kills the editing experience.

I am not saying you can't edit with other tools, because you can mostly use the editor of your choice. But, for 100% contour support they request you use storyteller. I don't, I use dashware, vegas for large edits and windows movie maker for small, easy vids.

Once again Greg... sweet ridin' and nice prediction skills ya got there for not getting collected up by the rider in the kink.

Hitting the brakes on the straight always smells kinda funny, if ya know what I mean. For a track day, "if I pass there at all", I will always pass on the outside. Basically... I am planning it even before I top the crest to the straight.

^^ thanks have to get smoother and better line in turn 5. I think when I am alone, relaxed in 3rd gear its best. When I am on the chase or in traffic I drop to 2nd and then find my self moving the throttle around too much.

Hey thanks CC. I don't know the guy in the white leathers but we talked a few minutes after the session.

Gotta come up to new England some day, maybe just maybe we will have -
Loudon
Thompson
NYST
Palmer, MA
Tamworth, NH
Lyme Rock - though I hear its not that great of a layout

in the next couple years. Hard to believe.

Greg, I got an unexpected call from an old AMA Superbike, Nascar guy yesterday. He was at Thompson this weekend helping out with the World Series of Speed or something. His kid might have been racing. He said he does limited races now. He tells me he's got a speed shop in North Carolina around all the other Nascar guys as well as a place up in Mass. and wants to do some Vintage racing with me on one of our old race bikes. Sounds like fun to me. I'm going to try and get him to a few trackdays to see if we still have what it takes. I'll let you and Gordon know if we plan some time at Thompson. It's always fun to be on the track with Dale.

Yea, vintage racers on vintage bikes. Sounds scary but fun. Dale and I raced AAMRR, Wera, AMA, and Endurance together. We went all over the country together. Well, kind of, he'd haul the bikes and I'd fly in and race with him. I'm not sure either of us are up to it now but a few trackdays together will tell. Scheduling might be a problem.

I heard the Daytona 200 isn't an AMA race next year. They don't know how they are going to run it (although they say it will be run).

Would be cool to see.

Hoping to go to daytona and see the big bikes do the 200. But who knows what will happen there.

Tony's going to run Thompson in both directions this year.

First laps, from Ken Condon

Would love to do that, but I think my whole track budget is going to have to go to Tony. Gotta pay off that membership before it makes sense to go anywhere else.

To be honest, Palmer looks like it's going to be a lot like NYST but with more elevation change. Similar number of turns, similar feel. And a LOT closer, especially for you, you lucky duck.

Thats true Andy, but i figure i can manage doing possibly 1 day at NYST with TPM, its not much more than a single day at thompson WITH Tonys discount. 225 for the day with no membership, thompson is like 170.

I just want to ride as many track as possible, and im not sure how long this track will be around. I may get a membership to TPM next year if i liek riding with them, as their membership is cheaper and they go to many more tracks. I like the way Tony runs things, and ill still make sure i get my moneys worth this year. I plan on doing thompson 2 days in june, palmer 2 days in aug, and then depending on which track i like, another 2 day in sept since he runs both tracks that month. Depending on my friends, i may do the Razee day in June in thompson, or NYST in July, not sure.

Palmer will be awesome, my friend just bought a house maybe 15 min from there as well so i have a place to crash if i dont want to setup my tent and all that.

Ben, if i go to NYST im 100% doing the last weekend TPM has booked in July. Im not sure whether it would be sat or sun though. Maybe ill find a pot of gold and do both days, but im usually not that lucky.

Living the Dream

Pretty Awesome to come back to this post years later and see a man's dream come true. I saw the "maybe one day a track bike..." then peaked over to the left and noticed you have your road bike and track bike listed in your bio. You did it brotha! haha

The plan is:

- Get the basic equipment together (suit, proper armor, trailer hitch for the car, supplies/parts to prep the bike).
- Pay off the bike before going to the track.
- Do the first few track days with the bike as it is.
- Get addicted, make the next investment... bodywork because factory fairings are EXPENSIVE
- Upgrade gear as money allows (suit and boots)
- Eventually/maybe: Get a track bike so I can stop worrying about my main squeeze. That's a tough one. Wife would NOT be happy about two bikes.

Saw your name on the NYST TTD list. I'm not going but that's my favorite track. You are going to have lots of open space on that track based on sign ups. Enjoy and stay safe!

Hey Greg, How's life? I was planning on some vintage racing with Dale until the virus struck the world. I've been battling some skin cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, bum rotator cuff, and worn out knees but I'm feeling great. I finally got Eddy to wear a helmet since he lost his hearing on a very spirited 180 plus mph ride last October. Life has been crazy (as usual). Hang in there and ride fast!

Hey. Been off the bike lately as we bought a boat last year and been hanging there a lot. Working from there as well due to the covid. Sounds like you’ve got some aches and pains. 180 and no helmet. Must have been on the Panigale R?

Went to go over my bike for a ride and saw a leaking fork seal. So gotta pull off the legs and get them both done.

1st trackday in two years this past Sunday at Thompson. Rusty and nervous first two sessions. Then had a blast the rest of the day once I had confidence in the new tires and myself.

Been wanting to return to Thompson. I may just join you on the 23rd of August. All will depend on me returning to work and whether or not the Wife and I return to the Philippines around that time. Just visited Mr A. Douglas last weekend while he was running Thompson and would love to get back out there.
Hope to see you there (provided I make it this year) and maybe we can do a few laps together. Been so long since I rode there, cant remember all the track!

Would be cool. With a boat my track days are less frequent but just went -1 +2 and can’t wait to try it on track.

TTD Schedule just came out, road trip for NC Bike Oct 2022? Wife got me 2 days for next year, and i think with the new baby commuting on the bike looks to have gone away so i think im selling my N1000 next year for either a zx10 or new zx6 for a more track oriented setup

Hey, Greg...

Are you doing any days with TTD this year? I'm doing a ton (for me, anyway). Would be cool to hang out with you. I'm riding in blue group these days.

A boat AND track days?

You, sir, are doomed as doomed can be, dontcha know.

TTD is under new management. Kerry Smith and Paul Duval have taken up the reins. Same vibe, same crew with some new faces, new classroom curriculum that kicks a$$.

All events are selling out well in advance.

Hope to see you out there!
