Change in the stable

Well as some of you have noticed my posting has dropped significantly but I've had a lot of things going on and a lot of issues in acquiring the correct parts for the 250 rebuild. As some of you also know I'm looking to get a dirt oriented bike. well Both my XS1100 and my VFR 750 have been online and for sale for a while and well someone wants my XS11, I really didn't want to get rid of it but I really don't want to get rid of the VFR either and I really want a dirt bike so one of them had to go.

I had someone contact me looking to trade their KLR650 2007 for my 79 XS1100
pics below.

I know the general concenses is that the KLR is the Jeep of the motorcycle world. a go everywhere do anything bike it won't do it fast or pretty but it can get it done with the right tires.

I really was hoping to get something lighter so I could supermoto it and do some easy enduro events but I am attracted to the adventure capabilities of this bike. and most enduro's now have stuff for the bigger adventure bikes.

So what do I need to know about these bikes that owners may know, what are some simple upgrades etc.

PS I didn't get rid of my ninja I still have it (in pieces and I should be keeping that for a while.

I want to ride a KLR650 someday. I think I'd like one to do some adventuring.

well on an update I got the bike and put some miles on it this weekend (it was GORGEOUS) It reminds me a lot of my friends old XR650 except a little heavier. I don't trust mounting it like a horse in the dirt yet but with new toys comes new learning.

weld a big washer to the bottom of the kick stand. Mine never sinks in any more.

130/90 rears lift it up a bit, I did that for more ground clearance.

The doohickey is a known issue, with 12,000 miles, I would hope yours has been replaced.

shimming the needle, or a klx needle wakes the bike up.

A high compression 685 Kit made it a completely different bike!

aftermarket exhausts don't last very long because thumper.

Ricor Intiminators really help the front end, and I have a works performance shock which makes it much more capable.

The walmart ATV seat pad helps the stock seat not suck too much

The moose expedition rack is awesome, and Pelican cases don't break that easily. The JC whitney topcase will fall off or break if you take it off road.

Ive had my KLR for 7 years now, and I keep not selling it every time someone makes an offer.
