Nothing special, but it's mine....

As much as I love to practice photography I'm surprised that it's taken me 3 months (to the day actually) since I bought my Ninja to actually take some posed photos. The pics ain't nothing great but I like the way a few of them turned out.

Had the chance to take a ride last night and it was an absolutely beautiful evening, cool breeze, a storm was brewing off in the distance and you could see lightning the entire evening once the sun went down a little bit. No rain to be found where I was riding just a night sky full of lightning and a comfortable breeze.

[edit].. just had to add that the stock headlight on this thing flat. out. sucks! I rode around all night long w/my high-beam on and never once got flashed by on-coming cars. At first I figured they just didn't care to bother to flash their high beams at me but once I got on some open road w/no other cars around, coming or going, and I could see that w/the high beam on I was able to actually get adequate coverage of the road as compared to running the low beam on either of my cars. Not sure if it was just aimed poorly during assembly at the factory or what but if it's aimed correctly then the low beam is simply pathetic. [/edit]

Hopefully the colors look good, I had to tinker with these on my work machine and the monitors aren't calibrated.

Hope you enjoy.

This one really shows the storm that was rumbling off in the distance.

Nicole, it's a Canon Rebel XT; pretty old dSLR.

Rick, thank you, sir.

Also.... I added links to higher res versions of each photo underneath each picture for anyone interested in seeing any of them all embiggened and stuff.

You are a very talented photographer. Very nice

Replace the stock bulbs with GE Silverstar bulbs. Worth the money if you ride at night.

Thanks for the suggestions for the bulbs. I don't know if it's the poor light output so much as the aiming though.

Thanks Nick.

If you want to just get into dSLRs then I'd probably recommend picking up any used Canon or Nikon that's in your price range - you really can't go wrong with either brand, IMHO. The real expensive part of the hobby is when you get into lenses but if you're just looking at starting out then I wouldn't worry too much about getting top-notch glass. My RebelXT is going on 6 years old I think, with over 25K actuations I'd estimate, and it still seems to be going strong save for a spot on the sensor that I just don't care to clean off since it's easily removed in PShop.

Bumping for a few more pictures, had a chance to go out and do some riding around this past weekend and decided to do a photo shoot with my bike... I have about 6 or 7 I want to post but haven't gotten around to running all of them through Photoshop for touching up, here's the few that I've managed to get finished.

Decided to head up to the Gateway Arch and do some photos along the riverfront and in a couple of urban areas nearby. The area is not exactly safe after sunset, let alone any time of the day really, so I had to work with the harsh sunlight versus the nice soft, ambient lighting you get around sunrise and sunset but it actually worked to my favor for a couple of as-yet-to-be posted photos. Unfortunately, in my haste for posing the bike, hopping off with my tank bag, taking off my helmet, and snapping the photos and then hopping back on, putting my helmet back on, and scooting out of the rougher areas I wasn't making sure the bottom of my tank bag was clean so I picked up some pebbles which caused some nice scrapes in the tank.

Wish I could've edited my original post to include these so they're all at the top of the page, but I guess you lose your ability to edit a post after it's been out there for a certain length of time.

Hope you like'em.

It was actually kind of weird, the wall of graffiti, a wedding party arrived just before I was leaving and were doing full party photos in front of the wall.

I hope you don't mind if I saved the picture titled "Ninja6" and am currently using it as my desktop background. Those are all GREAT pictures. Now if only they had a green bike in them, but that's a whole other debate.

I used Raw to fine tune the colors and exposure to my taste, maybe add a vignette, then in Photoshop, I'll resize and run a plug-in called Noise Ninja to clear up noise and sharpen up the image a bit.

I've got a couple that may be a composite, trying to decide if I want to an HDR conversion as well.

No prob on the wallpaper, I'm flattered that you'd want to use it.

If you know how to use Photoshop, you can make it green.

Bumping b/c I finally got the rest of the photos done tonight...

Nothing really special about this photo, but for some reason I liked it.

Found this little spot of light in an alley.. looked like a spotlight just for my bike.

This one is probably my favorite shot of all of them... I couldn't decide which I liked better though, the partial B&W or the full color, I'm leaning towards the color right now.

B&W

Lookin' looooowww

Guys on bikes... we rock... right? Right?

Not too thrilled w/how this turned out.. really shows how bad my PShop skills are, I may go back and try and rescue it but probably not any time soon. I liked the overall shot too much to exclude it though.

Unless you're shooting to go pro (or just like playing around with cool software) you don't really need photoshop to dress up your pics. I use picnik as a web-based editor or Paint.net for a free downloadable application that works like photoshop. You could also play around with any of these and probably come up with some nice results.

OP - awesome photos and nice looking bike for sure. How do you like those convex mirrors? I've been thinking about adding some.

I'll echo what Brian says, you don't have to use Photoshop there's plenty of free or cheap alternatives out there. Another I'd recommend is GIMP. I stick w/Photoshop b/c I was learning it way back on ver. 5 so I just stick with what I know and b/c of my job in IT I'm able to keep up with the versions, rockin' CS5 Extended right now.

Thanks Brian, for the compliments. The convex mirrors work okay, I mainly only use them as a pre-check before turning my head to see if there's any cars there (or coming up) so I don't have to take my eyes off the road in front of me entirely. If there's a car in the mirror then obviously no need to fully check the lane since I know I can't move over. I think I paid just a few bucks for them from Walmart so I can't complain too much.

more new pics!!

Too damn hot to be out riding this weekend... took some new pics a couple of days ago so I wanted to post my favorites...

I had to use PShop to fix this one... the sky was pretty blown out but this is really how it looked when I took this shot, maybe a little bit of artistic license (wasn't quite that orangish-yellow, but close ) but it was just an awesome sunset.

Kind of a plain shot, but I just dig something about it...

Didn't quite come out the way I'd hoped, but I like the wide 'n' low angle.
