GPS mounts?

Hey guys.

So with this warm weather I now find myself getting lost out there on the roads, cause I just keep riding and never want to turn around. lol.

Instead of having to always take out my cell phone and checking the navigation, I would like to mount my Garmin GPS to the bike.

Do you guys know of any decent mounts out there? I saw a few that can be attached to the handlebars, but I would really like it mounted directly in front below the windscreen.

Was wondering if anyone has some recommendations they can throw me.

If you want it on the windscreen you are either going to need a suction mount that is small enough for the inside curve or get creative on the attachment point.

I third going through RAM.

One member on here (my bad, forgot who) found an angled bracket that was just right to use the bolt underneath the mirror to mount their RAM bar to. You could also try screwing it into the cowl below the windscreen.

I'll admit, I have the RAM aqua box mounted so its over my key (wind kept pushing it when it was over the handlebar) and mounted using the handlebar mirror mounting holes.

I look forward to hearing what you get and how you install it.

Aren't there still mirror sockets on the handlebar controls? You can get ball fittings that thread into them (10mm) and use that to mount all sorts of stuff.

Yup - the most common one is from RAM.

Could you provide me a picture of what you are referring to?

Are you referring to the screw at the end of each handlebar?

ideally I want to get the fork stem mount:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3Ss_ESdQNA

however, my bike (2009 ninja) does not appear to have a fork stem hole.

unless that is just a cap that covers the hole?

No, it's the unused mirror mount on the handlebars. There is a little round plastic cap on it that you can pop off, and underneath is a threaded hole that can be used to screw in a mount. Somewhere here on this site there are the specs for that threading (I'm pretty sure it's M10, but unsure if the threads are 1.25 or 1.5).

Here's a thread that confirms the sizes.

Here is a RAM ball part number for a M10 x 1.25 thread mount:

RAM-B-349U

and on Amazon.

There are two of them. Imagine where you would attach two mirror stalks to the handlebars, and they are right there. (the left one is an inch or two from the choke lever, and the right one I think is on or near the brake lever perch)

No, that's a different round plastic cap that is covering a threaded hole an inch or two from the choke lever.

(yes, that's it, silly. )

thanks. learn something new everyday!

however, i really would prefer the fork stem hole mount to keep the gps centered.

is that a possibility for our ninjas? There is no fork stem hole, but I am not sure if that metal bolt is just a cover of the fork stem hole, or if that is actually a secure bolt that keeps the forks attached to the bike.

I don't have a recent picture as I just moved it, but the ball on the bar allows the GPS or whatever to be centered.

I have a 3 inch bar (don't quote me on length) that connects the ball on the handlebar to the back of the phone box I use. I've moved it so where the screen of my phone is centered over the key, with enough room underneath to reach the key.

Really really bad picture taken from my helmet cam the night I moved it attached.

I just ziptied the car windshield mount to the clutch cable... it works surprisingly well, even if it looks crappy. Blocks the speedo, but the gps has a better speedo anyway.

So I just installed my handlebar ball mount, and just finished purchasing the diamond shape ball mount (http://www.ebay.com/itm/RAM-2-7-16-X...3144fd&vxp=mtr) for the back of the gps holder. Next I was going to buy the gps holder and the 3 inch pivot arm.

However, I was just outside with the GPS and suction cup to see if I could find a place to mount it (I already did this and tried to see if I could mount the suction cup onto the plastic cover of the odometer, or onto the windscreen. The windscreen was a no go, but the plastic cover of the odometer worked great) However, now, I just realized I can mount it onto the gas tank!

Wish I would have thought of this before. I tried pulling it off by hand and it wouldnt budge. However, I am still a bit hesitant to use it cause I feel it could easily fall off. I may rig up a safety string or something just in case.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this with you guys, in case you are thinking of buying all the other mounting pieces for your own phones/gps devices. I think this will work perfectly, and now I am not going to buy the other RAM parts that I was going to purchase eventually. I think this should suffice.

That's cool. Wouldn't stick to the pre-gen tank, too curved.
