Stator Cover Replacment
Oh wise and gracious forum...
After countless attempts to locate a phantom oil leak, I recently discovered a hairline crack in my stator cover. At some point this summer, I torqued one of the sprocket cover screws while the cover was not flush. This screw happened to run through the stator cover, causing the stress to crack the aluminum. The pain, the horror, the slow, oily mess. I've got a new cover on the way, and am preparing to get this bad boy installed. my question is a simple one, however I would hate to find the answer the hard way. Will it be possible to remove and install the new cover without having to drain the coolant and remove the hose connected to the water pump? The service manual does indicate disassembling the entire cooling system, but it also has a habit of listing other superfluous requirements when working repairs. I was just wondering if I need to be prepared to deal with the coolant, or if I will be able shimmy, squeeze and slide this cover off. Looking at it, I just can't tell - I don't know how much clearance is on the inside. Please, drop some wisdom, I'd be eternally grateful. |
