Looking for a new glove

Hey Everyone,

I am in need of new gloves. I am pretty sure I am going to get gauntlets.

What do you have, what do you recommend?

Any ideas would be appreciated

I use A* SP-1 full gauntlet gloves. Stiff at first but very comfortable after break in and they are holding up well so far.

I ordered mine on sale from Iron Pony.

I'm also looking for gloves. Actually, I'm looking for literally everything. I have my bike, but no gear yet. I'm looking at some Alpinestars AYC GP Plus gloves right now. One thing I've decided I do want in my glove, is to have the pinky and ring finger attached to each other to help keep my pinky from being pulled.

I have a borrowed pair of Joe Rocket gloves that fit me well. Does anyone know if XL in Joe Rocket fit me, that XL in another brand would fit the same?

I've been looking at these, but I really want the red ones! Although, they are SO much cheaper than original that it might be worth it to just buy them. They are pretty decent gloves

As per handroids, one of my friends has a pair. They look sick, but I don't know if I can warrent the cost of those babies if I want new tires.

Saving up for some Knox Biomech gloves myself, I think the Handroids might be a bit overkill for my daily commuting and weekend fun rides but if I somehow have the extra $50 to blow when time comes then I'll spring for the Handroids as well.

Reasons for picking the Knox gloves: kangaroo palm, scaphoid sliders, BOA system, reputation.

Mhmm, I wish. The SP-1's seem to be pretty legit, and at like 90 bucks including shipping to canada when they normally would be like 170+ including shipping.

I'm going to go with those. I will post up a quick review when I get them unless someone else wants to.

I have worn a Knox Handroid and a Knox Biomech glove, one on each hand to compare. The Handroids are thicker and the exoskeleton you can feel protect your hand yet fight your range of motion a little bit. The Biomechs feel smooth, seemless, almost as if not even there. I absolutely loved them and I'll be picking up some biomechs most likely as my next glove.

In other news I currently have a pair of A* SP-2s and I really do enjoy them. Comfortable, good quality, flow enough air to keep my hand cool. Feels well protected.

Yea, all knox gloves look pretty awesome.

To be very honest, I would love a pair, but the deal on the SP-1 is too good to pass up.

Would I rather go up a step in protection by a little amount, or gain a lot in terms of ride safety and experience with new tires over those Sh*t IRC's?

I do think that I will pick up a pair of biomech's or handroids next time I buy gloves. In a year or two

I'm on the same train as you. Bridgestone tires seem to be fairly popular with this forum

BT-016s or BT-003s

I was thinking about Bridgestone tires, because they do seem quite popular. However, since the thread on the Pirelli Diablo Rosso II's, I honestly think I will probably go with those.

I like REV'IT gear in general, but for gloves currently have Held gloves. Held enjoys one of the best reputations out there for gloves.

For summer, you can't beat the Held Airstream for safety and airflow. For multiple season riding, Held is coming out with a new glove very shortly called the EVO Thrux, that looks awesome - you can preorder now on Revzilla. Less clunky than the Knox, but with great safety features. You could also consider the standard held glove that built its reputation, the Held Steve, or you can also move up in price to full race protection gloves from Held, which are among best in business.

For those who have A* SP-1 glove. How are those in the summer? 90+ degree days? Do the flow air well?

These are the gloves to get! I have had cheap gloves (sedicchi, fieldshere) mid range (sp2's) and tried on high end ones as well the best glove I have ever had on my hands were the biomechs. They break in fast, are comfortable as all hell, and the feel they give on the controls is insane. They vent excellent. I can not think of one negative aspect of these gloves at all. I prefer them over the handroids as well. I plan on putting a full review of then up this weekend.

If you're looking for the warmest gloves....
look for army surplus mittens with a trigger finger. leather palm...the furry ones.I had a pair from Barre Surplus....cost me maybe $16 at the time. Almost as good as Gerbring electrics at 1/10 the price and they never short.....guuntlet to the elbow. They dont look nice but they work. If you're looking for warm gloves....

Looking forward to the review... especially as to why you prefer them over the Handroids, seeing as how everyone gushes about them and I never hear anyone discuss the Biomechs.

Both the A* SP1 and the SP2 are great gloves. I am currently wearing the SP2's right now and they work great for all conditions except rain. The SP1's are a little more protective, they have a wrist strap and it flexes better. The SP1's were going to me my next glove to go up to.

From what I've heard the Knox handroids are useless, I know MegaBikes (one of the bigger bike shops in Dublin) have stopped selling them & sent all stock back after a pair disintegrated on one of their customers & knox refused to do anything about it. The shop replaced them with Alpinestars GP Pro free.

Thread from an Irish bike site www.biker.ie/forum/showthread.php?t=156176

These just disintegrated, they were not down the road

(The Irish are liberal with the use of strong language, in case anyone is offended)

Something sketchy with that tbh. Why on earth would you bag up wet leather for 3 days?

Funny thin is I had the opposite with the A* gloves. I had the fi get seems separate after 5 months on my sp2's and gurks did it on his gp pair.

I was on that run, even for Ireland the weather was awful, if it wasn't a charity run for the neonatal ICU I would have stayed at home, everyone got soaked through.

I've left gear still damp for a couple of days altho not bagged up. Frank was one of the marshals & had a pair of waterproof gloves in a ziplock bag with him so threw them on when we stopped & put the wet pair in the ziplock bag to keep other stuff (like his phone) from getting wet in the tankbag

I looked over the thread organising the run, I weighed the leathers & found they weighed in over a stone (14lb) heavier than usual with the amount of water that they were holding.

Info on the run, and as people arrived home after it

Im happy to see that Im not the only one on this forum who thinks those gloves are a little over the top with the design.

I currently run a pair of A* GP Pro. The way I see it, if Jorge Lorenzo runs these gloves, then its got enough protection for my riding.

He sure did lose part of his finger in this glove, however, none of us are doing any motogp high speed cornering at Phillip island. Did you actually see that crash? It was brutal. The glove held up but his finger was severed, I doubt any glove would have saved that finger.

This was at the start of the run, before the rain really began.

That makes sense then, given where he rides I doubt it was the first time they were wet, letting them get that wet and letting them soak in a ziplock bag for 3 day then just taking them out and letting them sit for a month before dealing with them inam sure you are going to have issues with them.

As far as first hand experience with them I have seen a pair that have been crashed in 3 times, a 30 mph low side, 15 mph low side and a 100 yard slide down the road at an unknown speed (guessing around 50-60) and the gloves are fine and usable still with the riders hands taking no damage.

As for the Kobe gloves, my suggestion is to try and find someone who has them and try them on. I wore a pair for a 30 min ride to get food and can honestly say I hated them, the leather and padding were too thick, I felt I could hardly feel the controls on them. I was all thumbs trying to ride and felt like I was fighting the gloves if that makes sense. With that said the person who's gloves they are loved them.

From what he's said on Biker.ie & knowing the run schedules he bagged them sunday june 12th & left them sit for 3 days, air for 4 & wore them on a run the next sunday (June 19th) when they started to come apart. after that he dropped them back to the shop who sent thhem to the manufacturer in the UK, who fobbed him off repeatedly.
The thread went up a month later when MegaBikes replaced them & sent all knox gloves back due to the lack of support.

By the way I''ve stated before on other threads that I trust a knox spine protector to keep me out of a wheelchair should I have an off and my leathers have knox armour inserts.

Whether those gloves were from a bad batch or all of the Handroids are dodgy once wet is beyond me. Had knox been more honest & open it wouldn't have been an issue & I'd probably not have known about it

Man, there seems to be a crazy amount of mixed reviews about the handroids. I have personally have seen many posts and talked to many people praising them and hating on them.

HOWEVER, I have never heard any hate on the biomechs, and that is why I would probably end up with those If I do get a second pair of gloves.

I bought the A* SP-1's so I will do a review on those right when I get them, then do an edit to the review once they brake in. I hope they get here soon, I really need new gloves!
