NewGen rearsets on PreGen offerings
I've done about a half our of searching, and have come up with that a lot of people have had some success with this.
Can anyone provide a list of which companies make rearsets for the NewGen that are compatible with the PreGen, listed in order of least to most modifications needed to fit the PreGen?

Yep, all I gathered from there is that the NewGen rearsets will have the rear master cylinder on the actual rearset. This means I will have to grind off the old mounting point for that.
Are there any brands that don't require modification? If so, which? If not, which other ones are out that also require minimal modification?

Rearset adjusters fit without issue (a little contact, no biggie) I currently have those and they work great.
This means any set of rearsets for the newgen will fit the pregen, potentially with a little contact, maybe not. I've been debating getting a set of Bohemian rearsets because my shift lever is bent and it's just an excuse for new shiny farkles. |

Ugh! That's expensive though!!! I'll do it if I fail miserably at bending the oem shift lever back. For now, I'm just looking forward to doing a valve check, installing some cut-off's in my fuel lines, tuning my top end during open-loop, and getting my bixenon retrofit finished/installed/wired in the way I want it. I'm finally getting my LED's. I need to fab up a couple brackets to hold some switches, and figure out the best way to wire them in. It'll be legit once I'm done, but it's going to be a lot of thinking and soldering.
And I want a new road bicycle. So rearsets will likely wait |

I am looking at the Bohemian ones as well. DO you forsee any issues mounting the rear brake stuffs to the right side?

and I'm sure this is a stupid noob question, but do aftermarket rearsets replace the rear brake pedal? The bohemian ones in specific.

I've looked at them in pictures, and they shouldn't? but since I haven't had them on the bike, I really can't be positive.
Yes, those ones replace the rear brake lever. EDIT: this thread has some pictures. http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showt...light=bohemian I don't think there should be clearance issues on the frame like with my rearset adjusters. |

I've finally planned on getting the ones that the guy did a small write up about in the second post. Found them in the color I want for $150 shipped. By the looks in the pictures though, it doesn't seem like the tab had to be ground off; maybe just bent out of the way? I'm not really sure.
What kind of tool(s) would you guys recommend to remove that tab?

you could either use a table grinder (precision) (if your talking about a tab on the rearset not the frame)
angle grinder with cutting blade (fastest cut) dremel with cutting blades. (long time cutting) hacksaw. (lots of sweat) hammer (no cut) your choice amigo

I just went and looked at it with a flashlight. Do you think it could be bent back with a hammer?

You getting these for performance or for the aesthetics? It's going to stick out like a sore thumb since the styling is so different. |

Aesthetics combined with just trying to fix the broken parts from this bike I bought with cheaper or equal aftermarket. I'm planning to get a blue set for my bike that's in my avatar picture. It has a some blue accents on it, as well as my faceshield being blue iridium. It's definitely going to be eye popping; not going for subtle at all.
I'm sure it will be a bit more on the performance side from stock, yes?

However, I do believe the newgen rear sets would look extremely out of place. It's just too 'modern' a look compared to the rest of the bike, especially with a color choice like blue. Hope you prove me wrong and it turns out better though, I'd love to be wrong so I can have a bigger pool of parts to buy from. |

If I get any, they'll be silver to match the passenger pegs, or black to hide more. I've been eyeing Tofu's black passenger pegs though.

If I do go with blue, I'll defintiely be getting some matching passenger pegs. I need t
replace mine anyways; the right one is bascially falling off. Interesting comment about the "newness" of the part looking out of place on an older gen bike. What other offerings do they have for the pre gens that might be more approprate for the era of the bike. Do you think a color other than blue might be a little more appropriate?

not sure what you mean as far as what you can take off a newgen and put on yoru pregen. you can use alot if you have the $ and fab stuff.
im going to engraft the newgen seat and tail. my rear frame is cut off and tilted up. the new gas tank would fit if you got the gas tank rear platform or bent the tabs on teh new gas tank. levers fit. exhaust flanges are different. wont work. forks fit. wiring is a little different. rear wheel/swing arm is all different. fairing mounting points are all different so fairings wont fit

I might end up just breaking down and buying the woodcrafts meant for the pregens. Ugh almost $400
http://www.woodcraft-cfm.com/cgi-bin...n&key=05-4130B $150 for the X race or wtf they were. THe woodcrafts are probably better quality.

$150 with a little work vs $400??? dude, that's not even a choice. Get the $150 ones.
Plus the Xrace ones have folding pegs I think. That's a good thing because then the pegs aren't a "hard" part if they get dragged. spend that extra 240 on gear or a track day. Or tires. Or other mods. |

The X race are solid pegs, but yes, the price difference is insane.

Well still, if the price difference is that huge, is there really any benefit to getting the more expensive ones? Woodcraft has the same rearsets for both generations of bikes. The only modifications that you'll have to potentially made is a little grinding with a dremel.
I say, keep the extra money, buy the less expensive ones. It's not like the X Race ones are chinzy Chinese parts. |

Well neither of them fold.....
I know that a replacement set of levers is about $60 a side from Woodcraft. I'll have to figure out if I can find anyone with a grinder, or spend the $314 for the most likely higher quality Woodcrafts.

It seems you're willing to pay upwards of 400 dollars to do this relatively farkle-ish related project. Have you considered asking a shop that does aluminum machining to design and machine your own/ their own custom rear set? I'm not sure how much it would cost, but I don't think it would be far fetched to say it would be within your means. |

Yeah my friend actually just started doing CNC and laser cutting work. Maybe I can talk him into fabbing something up for me. Anyone know where I might be able to find some specs to work off of? I guess I could just remove the stock one and make a model that we can make modifications to?

That would be the best. Take those as your template, then most rearsets move the pegs back 2 inches and up 1 I think.
I might be in for a set if they aren't expensive. I would also like it if they went back as far as possible, but only up an inch. |
