Steel toe riding boots exist?

Looking for a pair of steel toe... or composite toe for that matter, boots. No, not to kick people's cars. Would be helpful to not have to change my boots if I were to take my bike to a construction site (I work for an electrical company, it would be convenient)

Any ideas?

Hmmm Chippewa ones maybe, just I remember trying to ride wearing my work boots and OMG it was troublesome to shift with those on because of the enormous toe on the boots

why not just buy a set of nice leather steel toe boots. They don't have to be motorcycle specific to still offer protection.

Right, but ones designed for motorcycle use are that much more likely to offer better ankle protection.

I'm not really concerned about a safety difference between riding boots and steel toe, they're both good enough for me, my problem is I can't shift with such large boots on, believe me I've tried

My biggest fear with work boots (which is what i wear) is the lace getting snagged on the pegs, shift lever, or brake lever. Might grab some road boots as i have a track day in june.

If you can't find any riding boots with a safety toe, just use a safety toe boot you like and tuck in the laces. In the Army we had to tuck our laces in boots. May seem a little odd the first time, but you find out how to tuck them in so they stay and are not annoying. Just a suggestion.

You don't see many steel toe boots due to the toe severing ability in certain impacts. Just like some jobs don't allow them at all, like around lifts and palletized weight.

This is something you're warned not to do on the CTB (Compulsory Basic Training) course, perhaps something similar to MSF in the US.

A steel shoe would cut your toes off, and make even more harm then protection.

So from what I can find online the Sidi have some kind of composite toe... I think I'll go with that, and stitch on the little green logo

makes sense. All I know is the toe feels like it as strong as steel. Cant go wrong with a pair of sidi boots although they are pricey.

So when it comes time to get my annual safety shoe at work I can honestly tell them the Sidi's are "steel" toe? I like this!!!

Den, this has been disproved but many different testing firms here in recent years. Basically what they found is that if your foot suffers enough trauma to crush the steel or composite section enough to actually amputate the toes, without that cap, you would lose the toes anyways. Also, newer designs in the steel toes flatten out across the board rather then just crushing straight down which caused the amputations.

I wear the Magnum equivalent. My current pair is not steel/composite toed since I don't need them that way anymore, but I have worn the steel/composite ones for past jobs where I rode to work all the time. Only boots that met the safety requirements for OSHA and still worked with a sport bike.

I wear general black leather high-topped boots. My first pair were steel-toed, but the ones I have now happen to not be. They aren't particularly thick and I've never had a problem riding with them. I spend about an hour per day on the bike and never had any issues with the laces.

I don't wear anything more motorcycle-specific because not only do I wear them all day every day, but I typically run in them and they also look nice enough to wear out or, when the big wigs won't be around, pass for "dress shoes" at work so I don't have to change out of them :P .


These are what I have now. I low-sided hard enough to break off the foot peg mount, and the boot was a little scuffed, but I sustained no injury. This is not to say I think they are as good as full-length racing boots, but I DO think they would fit in quite well with your average "street" boots as far as comfort, aesthetics, and protection.

Mike, I wear pretty much the same sort of boot--Square toed Dingos. I do plan to get MC specific boots for the coming season--looking at Tourmaster.

I'm kind of "Old school" since I have been riding since 1958. After a 14 year break, I started riding again. I felt like I was a character in Woody Allen's "Sleeper" The MC scene has changed--everything, jackets, helmets, gloves, and boots. Back then, nobody wore riding pants--Levis were fine. Motorcycle boots--most wore Engineer Boots or Frye Wllingtons. Our jackets had no armor. We wore Bates or Langlitz lackets which were leather with no armor. (I still wear my Langlitz on occasion) Our gloves were the super thin "Driving Gloves" that sports car drivers wore. We rode Harleys, Triumphs, BSA, and Nortons, with an occassional AJS and Matchless thrown in. BMW, Zundapp, and NSU were the minority. Then again, what we rode was not as fast as today's Ninja 250R. The only thing that was fast back then was Bultaco, JAWA, and Vincent.
