In a statement released today, the Larry H. Miller group of companies has elected not to renew its lease with Tooele County, and will cease operations of Miller Motorsports Park, effective October 31, 2015. This date coincides with the end of the racing season at the track.

Gail Miller, owner of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies, stated: “On behalf of my family, I would like to thank all of those who have supported the track over the years, both locally and worldwide, for their enthusiasm and use of the facility.”

The Miller Motorsports Park facility was a dream of then-owner Larry H. Miller, who had been a successful businessman, owning several car dealerships and the Utah Jazz NBA team. The 511-acre facility opened in 2006 and features a 4.5-mile long course that can be divided into separate tracks to accommodate multiple parties at once. The course hosted many world-class competitions on both two and four wheels, but according to the Deseret News, the track was a financial burden on the Larry H. Miller group of companies and was losing money from the start.

All is not lost for the track, however, as commissioners, as well as the Miller Group, is in search*of other entities to operate the facility. Barring a transition to a new owner and/or operator, the future of the track remains unknown. There have been discussions about building a prison on the land, but no decisions have been made.
