Get Gift Ideas for Motorcyclists Here!
With Christmas looming only 2 weeks away a podcast I listen to had a list of gifts for the motorcyclist (or to the motorcyclist if you link this post to your significant other, or family )
They are a sport touring oriented podcast so some of the items are biased toward that, but most are good for all motorcyclists. Under $25 SmartWool Lightweight Ski Socks Tilley's Travel Socks C9 Technical Clothing Kickstand Foot Accugage with Hose Small Dry Bag Aerostich LP Bag REI Flash 18 Bag (This one is $29.50, but mentioned with the other bags) JVC Air Cushion Earbuds Skullcandy INK’d Earbuds Kobalt 13-in-1 Ratcheting Screwdriver $25-100 Slime Compressor Camelbak Classic Quickstand Portable iPod Speakers and Charger Tourmaster Deerskin Gloves Craftsman 1/4” Ratchet/Socket Set Leatherman Micra and Squirt Silk Mini Tripod (This wasn’t specifially on their list, but after seeing the last item on the list I thought this was more usable for the motorcyclist, though not as cool.) Sky’s the Limit TimBuk2 Bag in a Box Motorcycle Lift or Jack (Also mentioned this lift and said it was a top of the line lift) Pitbull Front and Rear Stands Air Compressor and Air Ratchet (A better quality and cheaper alternative IMHO Link) Cycle Hill Tire Changer or Cheaper Alternative (Must be used with this) Heated Gear Scorpion Snowmobile Helmet Manfrotto Carbon Tripod Merry Christmas everyone. That is a great list Thanks for sharing. What is the name of the podcast, I might give it a listen. I enjoy This American Life, The Moth and A Prairie Home Companion

Just got myself a set of GPI stands.
"factory seconds"...gotta be kidding, they're perfect. Nicely turned spools, instrux and look and feel solid enough to support my ex-wife. One piece tubing,,,really overbuilt and that's a good thing. I'm within 100 miles of the distrib so I got them in, can you believe this...in 22 hours with no express charges. |

The podcast is called The Pace Podcast.
http://thepacepodcast.com/ The same list is there more or less, but I added a few things that they talked about but didn't have links for and for things I thought might be better. |

I too am a fan of podcasts. And subscribe to the ones you mentioned. I have a bias toward the CBC Radio podcasts. If you're a fan of Prairie Home Companion try the Vinyl Cafe with Stewart McLean in iTunes. |

I just bought myself a present (don't think I'm supposed to do that). I've been watching the Fieldsheer Quattro jacket in Hi-Vis Yellow from this summer, and the prices have been going down. Just when I wanted to buy they were out of my size in Hi-Vis. Found it on another site for $40 less (only $99.99!!!), and there is free 3 day shipping. Looks like now I can more comfortably extend my riding season.
Here is the jacket. The neck extension is removable. I got it from here. |

I have a bag similar to the aerostitch LP bag....never thought to use it on the bike.
Dang...come to think of it, its perfect. It would fold up and fit under the rear seat...and Id always have a backpack with me. Sweet. Oh, and I have that kobalt screwdriver...I hate it. Asthetically its very nice. But it drives me crazy. When I use it, Im always accidentally turning the ratchet selector, and it just ratchets instead of turning the screw. |

YMMV, but for me the Skullcandy INK'd earbuds are worth their weight in gold when I insist on listening to music via earbuds while riding.
-Blocks wind noise almost as well as a pair of good earplugs without completely killing external sound (like horns and sirens). I hear music just fine, as well as the rest of the world, on minimum volume for my mp3 player. -Solid sound quality for earbuds -Warranty that'll net you 50% off a new pair if you destroy 'em for ANY reason (I'm on my third pair due to my cat's fascination with headphone cable) Think I'll snag that podcast and give it a listen, thanks for the link

I agree. I used to use them and they were great. I could have my ipod on the lowest setting, and still hear it just fine, as well as passing cars, and the like. I have since switched to a Scala Rider Q2 and earplugs, and find that works great also. The sound quality from the speakers isn't the greatest, but they are just fine for what I wanted (intercom, gps, and music).
Oh, and you are welcome Chris. I started listening because of your discussion on the Versys on STN, went back and listened to all of them, and have been hooked since. Loved the episode with Ken and Jim, and I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of that. |

Toe Warmers
Since I recently purchased the Gerbing heated jacket liner and glove liners, along with the dual heat controller (allows you to control the jacket and gloves separately), my toes are the only parts of me that get cold when riding now. I was thinking this weekend of possibly cutting the toe portion, i.e. from mid-foot down, off from some old socks and wearing them inside a full sock. This would help to fill the air void in most boot toe areas and might help keep my feet warm.
Next thing I did was a typical "google" search and found the following: http://www.amazon.com/Heat-Treat-Toe.../dp/B0007XB3X8 These are supposed to last 6 hours and adhere to the toe of your socks! The above link is the cheapest place that I have found the "warmers." I may still consider "cutting the toe portion" off of some old socks. By doing this, it would alleviate the thickness buildup created by wearing multiple socks. In other words, your boots wouldn't feel cramped everywhere, just possibly the toe area. Thoughts? |

I don't know if it is the case with the "Toe warmers", but all the hand warmers say to keep them out of airflow, and moisture. I would be a little worried they might get too hot inside your boot.
