Undeniable proof that sportbike riders are smarter that cruiser riders

The motorcycles in my town are pretty evenly mixed between cruisers and sportbikes. Ever since they lifted the helmet law I have seen that about 2/3 of the riders on cruisers (touring bikes too) do not wear helmets. I have yet to see a rider on a sportbike not wearing a helmet. I see this as evidence that we are smarter.

-Also, I find that the majority of people NOT wearing helmets are still in full leathers. I take this as they do not care if they die, as long as they look good in their caskets .

...I just don't see the appeal, especially after your used to doing it anyway.

That's like when a buddy of mine bought a Harley and got fake DOT stickers, to put on a fake helmet........your wearing a helmet thing on your head, why not wear something that will actually protect you instead of just annoy you...

I can't do it. I might, on a rare occasion and exceedingly hot day, not wear ALL the gear, but my helmet is like a comfort blanket. I have to wear it. Plus I like the anonymity it gives me, no one can tell who I am .

It was repealed for "tourism" reasons. Their thought was that all the states that surround Michigan don't have helmet laws. Before, they had to either carry a helmet or turn around at the border. So now they can come into Michigan and spend their money. I personally think that their logic is retarded, but hey, I'm all for less laws. I'm glad that I can wear my helmet by choice. On the other hand, though, I'm going to be pissed if my insurance rates go up alot next year.

I'm personally against helmet laws, but I won't ride around the neighborhood without throwing my helmet on and strapping it down.

Same. The only jacket I have right now is a extremely heavy buffalo-hide leather coat. It looks awesome but I've discovered that when I'm riding in town when its above 85*, I get so hot at the red lights, that I don't recover once I'm moving again. Last time I got all dizzy and when I got home I had to drink damn-near a gallon of water. Saving up for something more breathable.

Good thinking . Does it have chest protectors or just back?

it has both, well, a full back protector (not c.e. approved, but effective enough) & a mini chest protector covering you sternum area, not fully covering chest but hell!, way better than nothing. I rock mine both under my race suit and jackets...and if you're a squidly s.o.b , it's pretty bad ass on it's lonesome under a t shirt.

I dont think its proof at all.

Helmets are part of the sportbike costume just like vests with patches are part of the cruiser costume.

That said...Helmets are a good choice anytime you might fall down and hit your head

Cruiser riders don't need helmets because they have really thick skulls.

I hope the helmet law repeal leads to legalizing lane splitting. Slim chance, but I can hope!

My choice of protection would be the helmet over anything else. To me that is a no brainer. Pun intended.

I would hate to have road rash and the face and head would be the last place I would want to have them.

The one that i have, is CE approved and has a better chest protector then the old version

+1 I wear full gear, but the helmet is the most important thing to me. Remember it's for eye protection too: plenty of opportunity to get blinded on a motorcycle without eye protection.

How old are you? I'm in my late 20s and I don't heal like I used to. I've had a bruise on my hip for 9 months now from falling down in August. You might find that once you hit 30, or even 25, your body will not fully heal. You'll never get the same range of motion and you'll never be pain-free again even after the cast comes off.

I would assume they're going to be dressed before being put in the coffin, anything that leathers cover will be covered anyway.

Sliding/bouncing down the road w/o a lid their face will be ground into the ground... so closed casket job

I love the anonymity that a helmet gives me. I 95% of the time ride in full gear and I can understand when people throw on shoes instead of boots, or leave the gloves or riding pants, but the helmet is 100% of the time no matter what for me.

How about just the simple fact that the gov't has no right to tell anyone they have to wear a helmet (or seatbelt)?? Before you know it, the Nanny State is going to be telling you you have to wear a 1-pc racing suit to ride, and you have to have a full roll cage in your car. Then you'll have to wear your helmet just to walk down the street. Then you'll have to walk around looking like the Michelin man in your protective suit 24/7, even in your own home.

After all, it's for your own good.

States that don't have helmet laws have less of a problem finding organ donors.

I just feel so undressed without the helmet and gloves...

We all die someday. But I'd rather live riding motorcycle safely and do other things instead of skidding my face against pavement and regret about not wearing a full face helmet, a simple task.

Y'all can do whatever you want. Remember.. survival of fittest. Rather, "smartest" in the modern context.

I wish Indiana had a helmet law. It's more cost effective to scoop someone up in thei helmet than to buy a bucket. lol In all seriousness though, I don't understand why a person wouldn't wear a helmet. Personally, I don't care if people don't want to wear any other gear, as long as they are wearing a helmet. Seeing someone's head spilled on the road is disturbing.
