[visordown.com] - Brough Superior to enter Moto2

REVIVED British marque Brough Superior will make a one-off wildcard entry in the Moto2 class at next month’s British MotoGP round at Silverstone.

A Brough-branded race bike dubbed ‘Carbon 2’ will be ridden by British Supersport’s Luke Mossey.

The bike, first revealed by Visordown last September, features a carbon-fibre monocoque chassis (hence the name) and uses a Honda CBR600RR engine under Moto2 rules.

The race team will be run by engineer Paul Taylor and designer John Keogh, both British.

Taylor said: ‘The bike has been in development and testing for a number of years and as befitting the iconic Brough Superior name, this is the state-of-the-art in chassis design.

‘Luke has taken well to the bike so we are really looking forward to mixing it up with the regular Moto2 competition to see how good it is.’

Mossey said: ‘I’ve ridden it in California and really like the bike - it reminds me of riding my 250GP bikes. I’ve done well at Silverstone, it’s one of my favourite tracks, so think we can be competitive even though we have had less track time than our competitors.’

Brough Superior has been owned by Austrian-based British businessman Mark Upham since 2008.

The firm recently unveiled its first new road bike in 73 years, the SS100, a 997cc V-twin which is due to go on sale next year - for a salty £50,000.

In its heyday the British marque was known as the Rolls Royce of motorcycles, with famous owners including T.E. Lawrence.

The British MotoGP takes place at Silverstone on August 29-31.
