250R Police Chase

Browsing from another link posted in another thread I found this. The guy is running from the cops on what i'm pretty sure is a pre-gen 250R

http://bikerpunks.com/mediaviewer/22...from-cops.html

It's a long one.

This guy was an idiot. No matter how fast the bike is you can never out run overhead helecopters and radios. He needs one of these

To outrun a helicopter, you're going to need a Porsche

Did you guys see the one who got away from the helicopter on his bike in socal by parking in a mall complex, going into the mall and changing clothes in the changing room and walking out the door.

He turned himself in the next week or whatever and they let him off easy! Was all over the news a good while back.

It always amazes me how these guys never beat the copter. Then again if they did you wont hear about it.

But if I ever need to ditch one i'd

A) go into a city with taller buildings,
B) tunnel with multiple exits,
C) Ride by an Airport
D) Prolong the ride by riding conservatively, the 'copter will run out of fuel before the bike and when he goes to refuel gun it and get away

Ok, first the guy should have had his jacket zipped up. I hate when your jacket flaps around and it gets really annoying.

Second, the police over reacted. There are police rules not to chase people unless they are violent crimminals. This poor rider was obvisouly just out for a spirited ride.

Third, I doubt very highly the rider even knew he was being chased. He could have ridden much faster and taken evasive action had he known the police were in pursuit. I noticed once the police were in view this rider could have rode off but didn't try to get away. Instead of asking for his license and registration, the officers threw the rider to the ground and beat him.

Unfortunately, I have been in the same situation. While riding on a rural road in Indiana one morning, headed to Bloomington, my friend and I had passed a number of cars who were not going at a pace we found suitable. As we came to the first traffic light in Bloomington we heard a number of sirens. We looked at each other and I stated it must be one hell of a fire. Shortly after that there were police cars coming from every direction. We had no less than 7 cops screaming at us to do 4 or 5 different things and each telling us if we didn't comply they were going to use unreasonable force. Finally a State Trooper showed up and grabbed us from the clutches of the local hooligan police force. He put us in his patrol car and let the other officers get back to their offical donut patrol duty. The State Trooper then told us he had been following us for roughly 20 miles. When he finally realized we had no idea he was behind us and that we were not running from him he told us we would only be getting a speeding ticket. Now I don't like speeding tickets so when he asked me how fast I was going I said the speed limit. I guess he was expecting that because his next question was "what is the speed limit". Now I had to figure what the limit on a 2 lane rural road would be. I said 50 MPH. Well I was close but he wasn't going for that. He informed us he was doing 70 and couldn't catch us but he didn't know how fast we were going so he said we had to be going at least 70 MPH. I asked him if he would be kind enough to give us a warning seeing how we had endured the rathe of the local city PO PO. He didn't go for it at all. We got speeding tickets and we paid them cheerfully. It was better than the jail time the Bloomington we looking for.

So you see things are not always what they seem to be.

nice story CC, had a similar experience leaving Spokane and crossing the tip of Idaho into Montana where you pass through idaho for 30-40 iles or so.. It's a curvy great interstate running through the mountains and has a 55 mph or so speed limit..I saw blue lights behind me and knew they were for me so i slowed to the speed limit and got pulled over and a VERY angry trooper informed me he clocked me at like 30 over 18 miles back, at which point me and my freind told him sorry and that we had to be in colorado springs for formation at 6 am ( We went in the army together after high school and ended up at the same post, so we vacationed together and split the 1600 mile drive home) This was like 7 or 8 at night on a sunday evening) I asked him to look the other way for a fellow government employee and that made him madder, I believe he would have locked us up had we not been in the Army..One fat ticket later we were on the road and guess what about a mile from where he finally caught me was the Montana state line

Uhh... the bike was stolen, dude. The chopper was after him too. He was getting on and off randomly and making illegal passes constantly... something he wouldn't do on a stolen motorcycle if he weren't trying to get away (attracts attention).

Oh, I get it. You were joking.

The guy narrating from the helichopper said "he must be doing 80 or 90MPH". Seriously? That's a normal speed to be travelling on the motorway here! The weaving through the traffic is obviously dangerous though.
