did u notice any change when you done your valve job?

Waited till 12,000 miles for my first valve job and had to adjust 7 valves one step and 1 valve 2 steps. After it was done I noticed nothing as far as performance, response, cold starting or sound. The bike just simply went on its merry way running like a champ.

probably shouldn't expect anything, unless the motor was in bad shape.

bike is maintained as prescripted.. only thing wich is bothering me is that there was no valve addjustement at 12000 km (~8k miles)...
at kawasaki service they told me that they stopped checking valves at this mileage, as no bike so far needed adjustement.

in a week or so i will hit 24000km (~15k miles) and will need to adjust valves..

sry for lame question, again.. i was just curious

We don't notice much change, but the valves do, because they cool down much more when their gaps are as they should.

They have more time touching their seats, close to which the coolant flows.

The reason for periodic service is that, with wear, the gaps get smaller and the cooling time gets shorter.

In extreme cases, the valve remains semi-open, getting burned by the hot gases that leak through.

@lgk i have never had throttles synced... in other words.. this means that i have to check that both "plates" in fi system opens at the same time?

edit: also, are acceptable clearance ranges on motofools link good for 08 250r too?

Mine was noisier (more valve clatter), idled more smoothly and ran cooler.

not so much that both are opening at the same time (both plates are operated by same shaft), its matching the airflow going through both cylinders.

usually fixed by adjusting idles screws, throttle stop, etc. with a pressure differential manifold.
the EFI probably doesnt need it done as much as carbs but still worth a look at 15k miles.

When I did the valve adjustment, I had to adjust 3 valves. I put everything back and the bike ran fine.

However a week after I did the throttle body sync and they were way off. When I balanced them I acutally had to adjust the idle because when it was balanced it raised the idle. Took it to the track this weekend and it performed well.

if a valve is more than 3 or 4 sizes out of spec and really making some magical noises, it will perform pretty ******. i've done valves on a bike that was having some issues wouldn't idle right, skipping in the middle, after the service and sync it ran like a new bike. it was the bikes first service, but wasn't done til like 14k
