Are the newgen and pregen cranks the same?

Kawasaki is making things pretty difficult when it comes to cranks. They list different part numbers numbers for the pregens and newgens:

Years / part number / price
1988-2005 = 13031-1247 = $533
2006-2007 = 13031-0013 = $416
2008 = 13031-0112 = $437
2009-2010 = 13031-0120 = $437

From what I can tell, its a safe bet that the pregen cranks are interchangeable, but what about with the newgen cranks?

Below are two photos of cranks. The Kawasaki specs say they use the same bearings and have the same size journals, but why do they have different part numbers?

Newgen Crank

Anybody know what the difference is?

Sort of related here: are the cams from the 86-87 bike interchangeable? I know those had more top end and a cam swap is easy

dont know the difference but when you change to a new crank make sure you do a squish check on the clearance between the bearings you put in and the crank surface... they are matched to each other with pretty tight tolerance. i forget what its called but they make these little ink strip things that squish when you assemble it. if its too tight of a squish you have to get smaller (or maybe bigger depending) bearings surfaces or something
