Red face Pretty Helmets

Hi,
I am looking to buy a new Helmet. I want a real Pretty one with like a removeable half face shield. I saw some online that had a clear shield and a tinted one interchangeable. I am in New Jersey and want to know where there is a store that I can go in person that has Helmets like THESE. Maybe could be in a solid Pink color too. Thanks!

Please, please, please buy a full face helmet! The stats are floating around out there on the internet, a large percentage of impacts to the head are the chin area. Sorry in advance for being preachy....

Also buy a white helmet and paint it how you like, never buy a helmet for how it looks.

You should never paint a helmet unless you really know what you are doing with regards to compatibility between the paint and the particular helmet material. Incompatible paints can lead to weakening of the helmet shell material.

If you want a flip up type helmet, I would look for something like this instead...

I believe they are called Modular helmets. They offer the protection of a full face with the ability to flip open

After riding for 15 years, I switched over to a 3/4s helmet. I find it MUCH more comfortable than a full face. Less protection? Yeah, sure, but at some point you have to decide where the trade-off is between protection and comfort, and my point is with an open face.

The best helmet I have used is a Schuberth Helme Concept, but they nolonger sell them in the USA. You can pick up leftover DOT stickered helmets for $70 most are in white because few people wanted white. The chin flips up which makes it nicer to put on. They are quiet and don't get caught by the wind as much and many other helmets. I think they also have some guides on the type of paints that can be used to decorate them safely. The Concept and the C2 essentially look the same:

I love the full face on Ebay. The skull bandana is pretty cool also! I like pink helmets too but I don't know if it would go good with my red bike. What do you think?

Nope. Once it's on, it feels it belongs. Only problem is if you want to scratch your chin, but it's better than having no chin left to scratch.

Suggest going to a local store to try out a few off the shelf to determine the right size. Then order online.

While at the store, you could do some honest shopping - gloves, jacket, pants, boots...

... wind-proof lipstick.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the butterfly helmet. Sooo kewl!! Anthony is right, I would try on some helmets first before buying online. Also, different brands fit differently, so keep that in mind.

In my MSF course, the instructor had a modular helmet, he said they dont provide the same protection as a full face helmet because on a crash the part that flips open can break off

I wear a 3/4 the helmet. I've worn a full face in the past but found they hot and suffocating. I cant hear as well either. I guess I get claustrophobic in a full face. They do look cool though and of course the functional part. I do have to say, next summer I believe I will be purchasing the full open full face. That is AWESOME !

Heh heh... I usually turn the music off. It's tough to browse on a tiny 'netbook too (have to use Kiosk mode for it to format well enough for the small screen). If none of the pretty ones they have are your thing, they do custom designs too.

That first helmet looks like a G-MAX GM-17S. GMAX retail selection is kinda iffy, but I've seen them at Scooter Superstore in Tyrone, GA (all types), Cycle City Powersports in Newnan, GA (full face), Swamp Fox Motorsports in Tazewell/Bluefield, VA (Offroad/ATV), and Fun Bike Center (FBC) in San Diego, CA (a single solitary full face helmet). I'd look around because almost every place seems to have them as their cheap brand even though they only carry one or two. You'll likely have to order the design you want online (or special-order at the dealer), but at least you can try one on for size first. I never found an official GMAX dealer list but they aren't carried at Cycle Gear.

The second one is a KBC helmet. Unlike GMAX, they are widely available... for example, you can find them at all Cycle Gear stores and they can order the style you want if it's not in stock. KBC is considered a much better brand.

I agree that it's important, but you must consider ALL the data. The chin piece DOES protrude. That said, I'm still sticking with full-face non-modular. It's safer and it helps keep the noise down!

Helmet sizing

Not to hijack your thread or anything, but I have a similar helmet-related question. Sorry if this is dumb. I notice on a lot of websites, they don't differentiate between women's helmets and men's like they do with apparel. Are helmets uni-sex? In other words, if I wear a small, would a "small" fit me whether it was actually a lady's helmet or not? Thanks! And yes, pretty helmets THAT FIT are very difficult to find! Ally
