Throttle Free Return Slow

I acquired a used 2008 250 with 2700 miles on it. It wasn’t idling and died with throttle so I pulled the carburetors to clean the jets. The throttle free return was fine before I took everything apart. But now it is slow to return - it no longer snaps closed. What did I do wrong?

Never mind. Problem solved. I had the lower cable adjusters tighter than they were originally. I compensated at the throttle end and it was snappy once again.

New problem: dumping fuel out of the overflow line while cranking. I am pretty sure I put everything back the way I found it. Would the float bowls get knocked out of adjustment just by opening them to access the jets?

Probably not, but I've had floats get hung up after having bowls off over the years. If that's the case, you might be able to drain the bowl and refill, and have it start moving freely again. I've also occasionally been able to tap on the bowl with a screwdriver handle and get it free. Otherwise I guess you need to open it again and see why the valve isn't closing.

^^^ What he said. I too have gotten by with tapping the bowls to free the floats.

Where does the vent hose between the carbs route? I can’t find a mention of it in the service manual.
