Generally, for an enthusiast level, they just came out with the 24 MP D5200 which should probably suit you just fine.

For me, I'm not into speed (Frames Per Second) but I'm all about crazy resolution and sharpness so I will be buying either the D800 or D800e. I'm finally moving up to full frame :-)
