The exhaust looks like a cooler. Other than that it's beautiful.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I kinda like the exhausts on the 09's.

Very nice! I've got the same bike, but in black.

What I don't like is that hideous fender. Getting rid of that was one of the first things I did to mine. I used the stock turn signals on my home-made elimination, but I think I will replace them with smaller ones.

I don't have an issue with the pipe, although I wish it sounded better. One thing to be aware of though with the stock pipe: If you use spools for a rear stand, the stock pipe can hit the right spool under heavy compression. A few people have actually had the spool mount break because of this (which I don't believe is covered under warranty). After market pipes don't seem to have this problem as they are much smaller. On my bike, I do have the spools on with the stock pipe and have not had a problem (although I can see that the pipe has come in contact with the spool).

My local dealer had 2 blue and 2 monster energy that sat on the showroom floor forever. When they reduced them to 7299 bam they sold all 4 in a few days.

Shogun makes spools specifically for this bike, and they clear the stock muffler. $30.

Yes, I've seen these before, but I don't have any experience with them. It looks like they are just smaller? There is also a brand (I don't remember the name) which makes an offset spool too. But the Shoguns seem like a much better deal if they work. I've got T-Rex spools on mine which are pretty small, but I think they can still make contact with the pipe.

Might have to try the Shoguns. For $30, it's worth the risk.

Thanks.

A local dealer here had them at $7,500 out the door (including tax, title, etc.). He had a Monster Energy version for $7,800 out the door.

Two people I ride with picked up brand new 2008 CBR1000 for $6,900 back in September last year. I guess a lot of Honda dealers were struggling to get rid of their old 2008 models as 2009 was coming to an end.

There are a lot of good deals out there.

Yeah, mine was ordering like one at a time of red/blk CBR1000RR, not quite that cheap but much less than any 600 bikes they were selling at the time.

I have 'em on my bike. Went down due to a manhole cover popping out. Long story, short version, the spools saved the left side of my swingarm. They work.

That is what I was wondering. The Shogun Spools look so small and short in order to not interfere with the exhaust, I figured they wouldn't do much of a job as a "slider" for protections. Is the left one larger than the right?

Which was Kawi's reasoning for selling such a low-margin bike for so long with double-digit year on year sales growth (easily cutting into sales of other models). After the update to the J-series and three price hikes, I hesitate to call it "low-margin" anymore. What it needs is some competition!

OK you new ZX6R pilots how about some updates as to how the bike is on the street now that you have hopefully put a few miles on them. Dealer in CT has blue and green left at $6,999 + $249 fees + sales tax. How does that compare to your deals?

How is the step up to a 600cc supersport from the ninjette? I have been lusting after a daytona 675 or ducati 848 but thinking about taking the step of a 650r or something similar between. Is it a big step up or is it manageable?

I got the 2008 new a couple of months ago. Here's my post of my feelings about it. Overall, very nice bike.

The deal you are quoting is about the same in the DC/MD/Va area. In some cases, the 09s went for 6799 with taxes and fees. Since the weather has started to break, the sales have started disappearing. But, that is still a good deal for a new bike that's rated as the best 600 for last year.

The setups are totally different. There are a couple of people that moved from the Ninjette to a ZX6 in the Ex-Ninjette forums. Check them out (me included). Will give you a pretty good idea of what to expect and watch out for if you make the move.

I agree that the 675 is a beautiful machine.

LOVE IT!!!! If I have to be making payments on a bike, the 09 ZX6R if the bike I should be making payments on. It has some flaws (spring balance front to rear being the most vexing, followed closely by the ohlins damper being a nearly useless "Kawi" spec instead of real spec), but it's overall a great bike and several years in tech advanced over the competation out there. Heck, they barely tweaked the 2010 ZX6, and the 2010 CRB/675/GSXR/R6 still don't come close to the raw engine performance of the 2009 ZX6, although chasis set up and tire choice does help bring OVERALL perfomance closer.

If you can still get one for that price....TAKE IT! NADA value on the things is $7500. Local Kawi dealers here aren't getting the new 2010 models until the paperwork clears for the 09 sales, 1 for 1, so depending on your area, there still can be deals.

That tool had obviously too long spools on his bike, and there is NO WAY his suspension was set up right or that he was riding in any sane manner. Short of going Evel Kneivel, it's damn near impossible to bottom these things out if it's set up anywhere near correctly. He claims to be 165+ gear, was set up properly, and busted his bike at Buttonwillow (which is known to be bumpy), but he's the ONLY 09 rider who's been there and done that (I've scoured the internet for other reports, and have a friend that rides an '08 out there regularly), which leads to LOTS of skeptacism. I'm 155+gear, and even hitting a manhole cover (8 inch thick steel, see my crash post), I didn't bottom out the rear suspension (gotta love zip tie tell tales), even set with 25mm sag and full soft settings on the shock!!! In any case, there's no excuse for CAUSING interferance problems by using parts that are clearly too long.

Wether it's bad placement for the spool mounts or not is arguable.

In any case, failure like this is the RARE exception, not the rule. Even the Kawi service departments are told that the spool mounts are for "Shop use only, and spools should be removed for riding". The dealers were told "Sell shorter spools". Luckily, Shogun was the first to fill the specific market vaccuum, but there were already plenty of shorter 10mm spools available when the bike came out brand new that were easily sourced (then as now, ebay is your friend!!). My dealer, at least, pointed all that out to me when I bought the bike, but I'm taking that to be the rare exception.

No, they're both small. If you go down on the left, it'll work, mine did. Without sliders, you'll probably crack the stator cover on the left or the clutch cover on the right. There are solutions to that, too, by the way! If you go down on the right, the muffler will take the beating before the swing arm will, based on simple geometry. If your spool on the right takes the beating, I'm willing to bet you're already in "unsalvageable" territory for the wreck, and probably in the hopsital for a while, too.

Another thing to think about...the stator cover on the left and the clutch cover on the right are the low point weak points. I have (but haven't installed yet) an Attack stator cover, still not sure what to do about the clutch cover. May go with something out of the UK, but the shipping prices are almost more than the item!!! Oh, and I have Shogun sliders inbound.

Depends on your maturity and overall experience level. If you haven't mastered the basics, it's likely to kill, maim, or bankrupt you.

I'm a motorcycle safety coordinator for my ship (I track 325 of about 3500 people, who ALL have mandated training, and who all get safety briefs and classes annually). I see all the message traffic for the whole Navy every time a motorcycle accident or incident occurs from the Naval Safety Center, so I see a lot of thing happening all over with all levels of rider experience.

If you're going from a carb'd 250 to a new, modern 600cc inline 4, it's a big step up. The bike is only moderately heavier, in many way much more responsive to handlebar and chasis bias inputs, and has damn near instant throttle response with 2X the torque and 3 1/2 times the horsepower on tap. Like anything else, if it's going to go bad, without experience, it's going to be unsaveable fast and furious. Think of the 650s as your Ninjette with more torque, a little more weight, and lot more speed that's achieved quickly. With the 600 supersports, that speed in achieved INSTANTLY.

Thanks and glad you are enjoying the bike. One dealer in mass is 7299 + 600 fees, doesn't have any but says he can in 2 days. Dealer in CT has them for 6999 + 249 fees. Third dealer says he can't get them from kawi anymore.

Waiting to see what college i am writing a deposit check to on friday for my daughter. That will severely impact me buying a new bike, or buying a new front tire!!

The 650R is such a great bike, but I can't get past the sound.. stock it sounds like a sewing machine.. with a pipe it usually sounds like a riced out Civic.... my CBR sounds sweet... inline 4s have such a smooth and sweet sound.. Vtwins sound evil, but the I4s are more reserved.. the parallel twin.. well.. its just not inspiring to me..

The look is great.. and it is surely comfortable.. I almost bought an 06 650R.. its fuel injected and a great ride.. but I knew I would regret the sound....

My own experience.. Going from my 250 to my 600 was pretty easy.. for the first few miles I kept the rpms around 4-5000rpm.. it felt a lot like the Ninja... the first time I eased into the throttle I couldnt believe the power... and I barely cracked it.. 600 miles later I am pretty much adjusted to the power, but I still very much respect it.
