First "real" ride on the R6

Okay... so I took the R6 out today (parking lot exercises) and... wow, it is a complete different beast from the 250. She wants to lean, lean and lean. I wasn't scared, I wasn't nervous... the bike pretty much knows what to do. She is smooth and very easy to ride. I can't speak for the other 600 cc's but the R6 has totally stolen my heart. Vale will always be #1 ... but I can have an appetizer here or there.

The biggest difference for sure is the height... but you get used to it after awhile. :0) The real test will be when I take her on my first street ride which will probably be in a couple of weeks.

This is my favorite "action" shot!

The kids and I:

Shoo, helmet head.

Welcome to the world of 600cc super sports! The more you ask of it, the more it will deliver! Trust the bike, it wants to run!

As a side note, make SURE you set up the suspension to your weight, as a properly set up suspension for this class of bike is the difference between a great ride and a dangerous, deadly, unridable mess. Take notes, especially if you trade off with a heavier rider and change settings often!

Hows the inseam height on you since those R6 have the tallest seats. I owned its predecessor for a while and enjoyed it while I had it.

Thanks! She won't be silver for long... we're going to get some new plastics for the track. She'll be red/silver/black in a few months.

Thank you very much! We have a friend who used to race in England that sets up the suspension for all of the locals around here.

I have to adjust myself accordingly since I lost about 3 inches from the 250 to the R6. I have to come to a stop and then lean her to the left to get footed. I can adapt to it. The true test will be on an incline but since this will be the track bike I don't plan stopping unless the bike will be pitted. And that's when the pit crew comes in hand. The kickstand will be taken off anyway.

Just wait til that R6 hits about 10K rpm, thats when that race machine comes into its life. A guy I know has one and says the bottom/mid are down abit for street riding compared to the CBR and the ZX, but on top it screams.

The nice thing about the R6 is that it still has quite a bit of the handling and flickability of the smaller bikes like the 250R. Its not as nimble as the 250R, but really good for a 600cc bike. Of all the 600's, the R6 is definitely tops in my opinion, and mainly due to its handling characteristics.

I have to agree with Bonzai....get the suspension tweaked. Just like the 250R, if its set wrong it can be a bone jarring scarefest.

Nice bike (I'm biased though). For me, the R6 is at its worst in the parking lot, so if you like it there, you'll love it else where.

As someone else mentioned...above 10k rpm...its a completely different bike.

Enjoy it!

That's what I hear! I was only ever up to 2nd gear. I still need to get used to her. Hopefully this weekend I can take her on a quick loop around town.

I agree, the parking lot practice did not do it justice...

I hear ya! I spent most of my weekend installing spiffy new 6-pot brakes on my bike. It was a "christmas" present to myself

Have fun on that thing!

The R6 is an animal after 12000 rpms. Best friend has one and it is as close to a racebike for the steet as you can buy in the 600cc class. I saw 165mph in 5th and decided thas plenty fast enough for me.

The R6 is a very great track bike - but after wearing my leathers I will need to learn all I can on my 250 first before I will ever be ready to take the R6 out any where (except the parking lot to practice). The leathers add about 5 or so extra pounds and I still need to figure out how to adjust myself so that I'm comfortable while riding in them (it'll be a few more rides til they're broken in). I'll be sticking to the 250 for a looong time. :0)

Very nice....I've always been a big fan of the R6 but decided not to pick one up because of the seat height.
Is the bike lowered?
The liquid silver has to be the 2nd fastest color after black...
