CHP vs. group of sportbikes/stunters

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet on this site, but now that there's a followup, figured I'd start the thread. It hit the local news, and I believe some national as well. Here is the original video:

replaced with new version:

Link to original page on YouTube.

original link

This happened just a few miles from where I live, so the local papers have been playing it up.

Here is the followup, where the CHP tracked the rider down via the internet postings, and arrested him on felony charges today.

Yeah I've already read all about it on another forum.

Did you also hear about the Yamaha dealership in San Jose that was burned down. The owner spoke out against the actions of the riders in the video and a few days later this happened.

I thought I'd been following all of the local threads on both of these, and hadn't seen anyone make that link yet. Where have you seen the owner post up anything, or even be quoted anywhere? Frankly, I'd seen much more suspicion around GP for insurance fraud than anything else.

Good on the cop for keeping his cool and acting professionally. A chase or a confrontation in that situation would have certainly ended with blood. Either his, the stunt riders or some innocent bystander.

Haha they say the guy tapping his helmet must have seen the cop... Idk I wasn't there... But he did sign the cops were ahead for some reason in all that madness. It's crazy how many angles of carnage they got into the video

Sure it's stupid what these guys are doing in this video, but I didn't see anyone else get hurt and it also seems unlikely to me that anyone else (but the squids themselves) would get hurt. If I was on that road in a car or a bike, I'd just stick to the slow lane and let them fly by. Problem solved. I'd probably actually enjoy the free momentary clown show.

The people that really are of concern to me are the inattentive people on their phones driving cars and trucks. They are seriously dangerous to everyone around them. If I had to put money on the chance of a squidy, stunta hurting/killing someone vs the someone who frequently uses a mobile phone in their car and doesn't concentrate on their driving I'd hands down put my money on the car driver. Especially considering the fact that so many car drivers seemingly have so little driving ability. Their awareness of their surroundings often extends no more than 10 meters in front of their bumper and their knowledge of how to control their vehicle in an emergency is likely extremely limited and entirely unpractised.

To be clear: I still don't think they should behave like that on the road. It is still introduces an unnessecary, additional vector of danger to the people around them and riding like that without gear on public roads is quite simply retarded.

I totally agree with you. Those inattentive people on their phones driving cars and trucks should pull off the road to talk. I have to admit, I try to run them off the road whenever I see them, it makes them more attentive people on their phones driving cars ( I don't do it to trucks, they are bigger than me).
