Wiring

Hi folks,

So I bit the bulletin and got some heated handle grips- came out good they are all installed just waiting to be wired up

I tested them out on the battery so I know they work and I'm just left with the question around how to wire!

For some reason those "spare" wires don't seen to be getting current, so I think I'll just buy a relay and wire it to he battery- ca someone explain to me the basic functns of what a relay actually does?

my understanding is a relay basically has two circuts. the best example is the headlight. when you turn on the ignition, the headlight does not come on but when you thumb the starter, regardless if the engine comes on or not, it goes through the headlight relay which in turn triggers the second circut in the relay, turning on the headlight.

personally, i would wire it up from the battery like some do for heated vests. then put the the toggle switch on the handlebars, so you can turn it on and off at will, rather then on and off with the bike.

Those should be always hot, unless someone added a switch or simply disconnected them.

Did you check your fuses? When I first used my heated gear this spring off the accessory leads I was getting no power. Changed the fuse and no problem since.

Those spare leads just dangle there. Its possible they accidentally hit something and shorted out and blew the fuse. That's the first thing to check.

But bear in mind that the Ninja 250 doesn't generate a huge surplus of power. It might be a better idea to just carry a small gel cell with you.

All done! Ended up joking to battery direct ! They seem to work not too bad for 5 bux!

i ran the set or oxfords i put on the battle ninja direct off the battery but threw a relay that is powered on with the headlights. so no one can hit the on button and drain the battery.
