Had it almost a month now.
And it took that long to get it to fire mainly me waiting on parts lmao but sprayed a lil starting fluid to see if she'd fire up and not even 2 cranks and she was running and purring well for as long as the starter fluid let it lol.

Hi and welcome to Ninjette!!
You've got typical issues for bike that's been sitting for while. Carbs need complete disassembly down to every single last nut, bolt and individual component for thorough cleaning. Can do search here for "clean carbs ducatiman" for relevant threads on getting these issues resolved. |

And here's what's I got her looking like now hopefully these pictures posted
But go figure I get it all back together and I'm lettingnher idle for the first time in close to probably ten years just my lu_ck I come back and either the heat sensor in the head was bad or the fan in the radiator was just toast. Well radiator fluid spewing everywhere. So I decided to leave the bike alone at this point for a while. Go figure I go to start it back up a few days later hearing a heavy knock in the low side of the motor. Now I don't think a simple over heat of a couple minutes could have pulled that much damage but it's my first bike. But now I'm under the impression that these assholes knew what was up with motor going out already and figured hey let's pawn it off to some kids 5jsy **** seriously hurts. So now Im not sure which route to go try and sell my mine as is for about a grand and try to upgrade to the newer body which I would assume the newer it is less chances of things going wrong. .or to get the big bore kit. Buy a donor bike that has a good motor swap mine out and go to work on the old motor and turbo it at 300 cc... Smdh I'm at such a loss I shouldn't have bought an a cheap bike and expected to to just be able to ride .. I get I I get it trust me. But any and all suggestions are welcome |

Big bore kits and turbos solve literally nothing. If you need an engine the 300 from a newer bike will fit, there are several writeups here.
Lots of things can make knocking noises though. I would drain the oil and see if you have any metal floating in it. It may not be as bad as you think. How long did you let it sit at idle? If it was idling fine and just got a little hot you're right, it won't throw a rod just from that. These bikes like to move, mine gets a little warm if I just let it sit. If it starts, take it for a little spin to see how it goes.

Yeah, check oil for bearing shrapnel. Pull out filter and see what's it caught.
Knocking can also be rubber innards in clutch going out. Very common on pre-gen bikes. There's write-up somewhere to retrofit new-gen '08-12 clutch. Or could also be cam-chain tensioner. Pre-gen ones tend to get corroded and stop advancing. That's easy to pull off and inspect. Yeah, don't ever walk away from idling bike. Test fan by applying power directly. Also test thermo-switch in pot being brought to oil. Measure temp when switch closes. If it doesn't, then that's problem. Personally, I prefer riding my pre-gen around town more. It's lighter and more manuveurable than bigger, heavier new-gen; which works better on track at high-speeds. |
