Bike has problems running..

It's has been months since I've ridden the bike and today I started it up, it will stop running without the prime. Even with the prime on, if I give it gas it will die. Also, while it is on prime, the rpms goes up and down from 1k-3k. Do you think it's a gas problem or carb problem? I also checked the shimmed needle and it has this light green residue on it... is it normal?

huh? you mean on the needle itself? got a pic?

it does sounds like a fuel/carb problem, though.

Yes, on the needle itself. Unfortunately, I don't have a pic of it. I was trying to open up the otherside to take a pic of it, but kind of stripped the screw. I think I might as well take the entire carb out and clean it, hopefully it will fix the problem.

well, green on the needle is not normal.

sounds like your pilot circuit is gummed up from gas in the carb bowls from sitting. I would recommend, draining all gas out of your gas tank, drain the gas out of your carb bowls, fill the tank with a gallon of fresh gas and healthy dose of seafoam (3-4 ounces). If you're lucky and the gas hasn't gone so bad that it's hardened and blocked the pilot jets, you may be able to soften up the gummed up crap in the carb bowls with the gas/seafoam mixture which would eliminate the need to remove the carbs.
