rubber o-rings? heat?

hey guys, kind of a generic question... i need to replace an o-ring in my cooling system that crys at night when it shrivels up from the cold, and i'm wondering if any o-ring that fits will work? obviously the cooling system gets pretty hot so do i need a specific type of rubber o-ring? is there a difference in the type of rubber in the orings in cooling systems? how hot can "normal" rubber o-rings get? i know next to nothing about rubber...

i was looking at these because i don't feel like paying for expensive oem parts... what do you guys think? any advice you guys can offer is really appreciated.

Well, the ones in our oil filter cap and bolt have to take a bit of heat too. I'm guessing it have to be galvanized like tire rubber or something.
