Gotta give it to them though... They have placed a renewed interest in local craftsmanship, something which big companies have long since pushed off shore...

I agree the attitudes are sometimes a bit much, but they are revitalizing some core structures which have been forgotten...

Hipsters... and hipsters riding pretty cool bikes. Two totally different opinions apply. In the end, as long as they enjoy the ride and respect the spirit of the ride, it's all good.

So long as the superiority complex and attitudes stay home, I'm good with it.
It just an odd thing. The scooter people I know are sorta anti social. Rebelling agenced the man. Rebels with out a cause. That sort of thing.

But then they are very social with themselves. Lots of party's and fun.

I like to say the anarchy movement needs better leadership.

They're not hipsters. If they had big glasses on (that probably didn't contain prescription lenses), one side of their hair was shaved off and they had outfits on which look like a mix of 40s fashion + 80s fashion THEN they'd be hipsters.

Hipsters would probably be hating on them.

Seriously: hipsters = haters. Or at least the hipsters I've met and seen. They're all insanely sarcastic and hate everyone and thing which is either productive and healthy or "mainstream" and popular. It's a really dysfunctional and ugly subculture which will die out quickly.

Sounds kinda different to hipsters. Hipsters don't have fun. Hipsters sit in small groups and laugh at people having fun. They may sometimes emulate people having fun... to be ironic.

Also: hipsters are not the slightest bit rebellious. They love the man and all the free stuff they get from the man to artificially support their otherwise unsustainable lifestyles. No way could they survive without government or parental money.

The other thing is that they think being different makes them cool... meanwhile they all look and act just like one another.
This! Although I have grown used to the little fellers, akima has hit the nail on the proverbial head. Looking like all your friends and neighbors while believing you are on the cutting edge of society's misfits is just annoying.

Yeah... At some point being Gothic got the attention of a fair amount of people wanting to be 'different' cool, and thus Emo was born. Emo evolved into hipster once people started wanting more colors than black, blue and purple, and wanted to actually converse with other people without being fake depressed. Meanwhile, the real Goths rejoiced in no longer being in the spot light.

@spooph - I have no hard feelings towards you. I just think your post implies that modern riders are wussies for wearing gear and that early riders were tough and cool for not wearing it. I'm mindful that there will be new riders in here that may take that in and make some some really bad decisions that really mess them up.

You're more knowledgeable about bikes and riding than I am, and your posts reflect that, so when you post something like you just did, it probably has extra sway on people.

P.S. I liek the cat and I do want the box. Pls mail it to:

Absolutely fair! I did not spell out the safety. I was hoping my generally sarcastic tone would translate and would show that:

1.) An "adventure" is simply being in a situation you're not very well prepared for with a heightened sense of danger. Therefor adventuring can be done on any bike, in nearly any place.

2.) Simply wearing gear doesn't make you safe, as these riders have all survived until today (yes, they live in CO and I'm familiar with them), and although gear helps, it is no substitute for using's one's head. Much like point 1, enjoying adventure is all in the head, being safe, is all in the head. Wearing gear would be part of "in the head".

3.) Hipsters seem to have grasped this age old adventuring style, and although some would judge them for not wearing "enough" gear, they are doing things for the motorcycling community which other groups just aren't. They involving people who would otherwise not be on motos, to get into motos, and THAT is making everybody else safer, because more riders = greater awareness...

I'm not trying to defend Hipsters, as they are a quirky sort, but I also don't like it when a single box is the only appropriate behavior allowed.

In which case, you're all the more welcome to my box.

Good talk!

The kind of gear we have today didn't even exist back then. I don't know what everybody is getting all worked up about. Wear the amount of gear that you're comfortable with. If hipsters don't wanna wear gear because they're too cool or cheap then more power to them.

I choose to wear the gear but I also defend the right to choose to not gear up.

Also I don't see how not wearing gear makes you more of an adventurer. If that's the case then cruiser riders and squids are the most adventurous riders out there.

Adventure to me means being out of your comfort zone, whether it be by riding somewhere you never had before or farther than ever before,.. stuff like that.

I'd rather pay for others stupidity and keep the freedom of choice. Mandating that everyone be ATGATT is a very slippery slope.

A lot of times when I ride I like to wear jeans, that should be a ticket cause its not proper motorcycle gear. When I ride to work I wear my work boots, that should be a ticket since they aren't motorcycle specific boots. Sometimes when I ride through town I like to flip up my face sheild for some extra airflow, that's a ticket for improper eye protection

Sometimes I like to ride across town with no jacket at all and just a T-shirt. Probably should get my bike impounded and sent to jail for that one cause someone's insurance rate and up two dollars because of my poor decisions.

That is an OK buggy man but I am sure you can make him scarier then that

I wear my gear because there is little as cool as a fat 53 year old Power Ranger.

What about a 22 year old caffeinated power ranger???

I'd insert a picture of me being stupid, but I can't find one in my gear. Drat! Thanks for the reminder.
