About to have a head-on collision?

(read with the Queen's accent)
1. Remain calm.
2. Position your motor powered bicycle to the right of your lane.
3. Raise your left arm and confidently present your middle finger to the offending party.
4. Continue about your journey.

^ yeah - could have easily been death. Especially if it was an inexperienced rider who wasn't able to so confidently control the bike (let alone make the right decision about how to control the bike).

The crazy part is... what did he gain by doing that risky overtake with a bend up-ahead? Like 5 seconds? He's just gonna be stuck behind another car. If I don't think I'm going to make much progress in a car I don't overtake. It's pointless. I just drop back a bit from the car in front and enjoy a relaxed drive.

On bike bikes you can over-take and keep overtaking and make good progress. If you f-up it's also likely just going to be you that bites it. You probably wont take anyone else out with you.

Wow.

Am sort of curious what the audio would have been like if there was a mic in the helmet. With no sound, it's super calm and in control. Wonder if the rider was equally as calm or shouting like mad?

This exact thing happened to me twice in two years of commuting on a 2 lane highway.

The first time was on a long straight away and the driver was applying her makeup while passing. She gave me quite the "OH $H#T" when she finally realized what was happening.

The second time was exactly the same as the video. Some moron passing in a blind corner over a double yellow to save 60 seconds of his day.

lol @xXecuterXx2 - I wasn't saying that to you. Your disappointed headshake comment reminded me if the thing lots of parents seem to say to their kids "I'm not mad... I'm just disappointed in you". Maybe that's not a thing in the states. Parent Vs Child psychological warfare tactics are probably different from country to country.

Too bad the motorcyclist wasn't a Brazilian off-duty cop.

I don't know why but this was a glaring hole in my mental scenario list of "what ifs?".

I'm glad you posted this so I get to think about how I would react to a situation like this at my leisure instead of having to do it in an actual emergency.

Thanks @akima.

np

If you imagine dealing with this exact same scenario at very low speed in a city it suddenly doesn't seem as daunting. Up the speeds and I think the same reaction is needed: move to the right of the oncoming obstacle, remain calm (never helps to be tense) and if you have the time and disposition: flip the bird

Mordeth 13's videos are quite good for learning how to ride calmly (and fast!) in a chaotic environment (Taiwan) with drivers pulling some extremely strange and erratic manouvers (asians). Love that guy's videos.
