Where can I store my motorcycle? Shed? backyard? what...
Where can I keep my motorcycle when I get it. I suppose I could clear out the shed and make a small ramp so I can drive the bike into it, but there are allot of tools and I dont want my bike to get dinged up. Also, its packed in there. The garage is small and thats where my mom keeps her infiniti G35 (only the driver can get in and out we have hardwood stacked on the right side. I SUPPOSE I could buy a shed separate for the ninja but that would cost allot. ARGGG. I dont know what to do with this thing. Also, Im leaving for college in the fall and its a year round school. Ill only be home every now and again this needs to be secure and out of the elements. Ideas?
What do you do with your ninja? Thanks! :P -Dave

Put it inside the house
Or, buy a weatherproof full cover.

or wait until you're more settled to get one if you can't take it to school and don't have anywhere to put it

Theres a bookshelf and dresser in the shed we really dont use, the price of these sheds is kind of deterring. Maybe I can throw those away and use the right part of the shed. I have to scoot the bike acrost like 20 feet of grass every time I want to use it though. This isnt a big deal is it?

Alright, I work at a marina and to winterize te motors we make a fuel mixture of WD-40, Sta-bil, and gasoline. We run it in the engines, then after 5 minutes or so (To assure its all nice and in the jets and everywhere) We spray engine fogger into the carburetor until the motor bogs out and dies. Once it dies we know everything is coated and there is no possible chance of gas deterioration and or rusting of internal parts. Whats the best way to winterize these babies?

Seriously? What about rust inside the engine. Also, I doubt running it until it dies gets every little bit of fuel...what happens when the fuel gets gummed up from the cold? Ive cleaned out tons of carbs full of gasoline that turned into a gelatin like substance over winter....madness. Does anyone here run it until it dies and call it a day? If so leme kno how its working out for you plz.

If you plan on storing it for a while. pull the spark plugs, add some oil in the chambers. Then cycle the engine using the starter (with the fuel cut off), and coat the cylinders with oil.
I personally would drain the contents of gas tank in a handheld gas tank. While the tank is off, pull the plugs, add some oil, and cycle the engine with the plugs out of it. Having the plugs out keeps the motor from forcing the oil to the exhaust. Then you should be set. I'd personally drain the gas out of the carbs myself.

I was thinkin about drining the bowls and calling it a day, but what about all the jets? I think ill run a lil sta-bil then fog it, then drain the fuel and do the cylinders.

TBH, not having $250 for a shed might be a hint that you don't really have the $$ for the bike.
There's a Total Cost of Ownership involved in motorcycles (or road bicycles or any other moving man-toy) that silently extends well beyond the pricetag of the bike, not to mention the risk of becoming a completely addicted gearwhore. I live in an apartment and during the summer I rely on a bike cover. In the winter I'll rent a car-port space and throw a cable around it attached to a pole. Might add a few blankets under the cover and will probably remove the battery and take it indoors. |

Did you put a cat under your kickstand? I've heard of throwing a towel down to keep divots out of the floor, but this is ridiculous.
