You have really good skills. I liked the pink prior to crash and the Purple gauges look great with the rebuild. You should sell the "helmet mod" to make money for the rebuild, I bet a few folks would like their lid to look like that

I need to get back into tinkering with the ears, because I would really like to make them work. I only set out to make my own when I couldn't find ANY online that I liked.

Harumi was a lot pinker when I first painted her, but it faded fast into what I call "Disappointing Grapefruit". I REALLY wanted a fluorescent pink, but I'll have to use a different shade that's actually meant for this kind of thing. :<

Check out Auto Zone or Advance Auto or what ever auto shops you may have in your area for auto paint. Auto paint takes longer to dry and cost more but will last and look better longer

HI THERE, HEY THERE, HO THERE!

Finding myself finally getting tired of the horribly faded paint job, and still searching for the right pink. In the meantime, I've decided to do a test:

Vinyl wrapping her.... In cheap shelf liner.

If the side panels hold up well enough, I'll tackle the rest of the bodywork. :3

Does it have a non-slip texture?

Your exhaust system looks a lot like mine when I got it. I used BBQ grill paint on the pipes and semigloss engine paint on the mufflers and it holds up well. You can even sand the gouges in the mufflers smoother and fill them with a little smear of Bondo if you want.

No more or less than paint. I really want to get grip pads at some point.

I do believe I'll have to do that! Never was too big on the chrome overload anyhow. Blacked out mufflers and exhaust will make the brighter parts pop a bit more.

I dig this, and I'm glad to see another ninjetter rocking the no-bs Emgo rectangular mirrors. They're the best. Where'd you get that locking license plate mount?

They may not be the fanciest, but they work well and add to the look! As for the lockbox, I got it from here. A very good way to keep insurance and registration with the bike, instead of leaving it in the wrong jacket.

Custom decals usually don't cost an awful lot, in case you have any creative ideas.

$20-$30 if I remember from last time around. I wasn't able to salvage the old ones, sadly. Money's a bit tight right now, so I plan to order some next paycheck. At the very least, I'm pretty sure I have some OEM-style Kawasaki decals for the tank... Somewhere.

Took some time to take her apart and refresh her look a bit. :3

Pushed through three days of wrenching and painting, and caused a CFS flare up that had me almost bed-ridden for two. Worth it! :P

Link to original page on YouTube.

She idles rough at 8000rpm, with a noticeable knock. When throttling up, she sputters and dies. When the issue first presented itself, she was revving up and down on her own... While I was doing 60mph on the freeway.

I'm sorry you're having trouble, Chloe. I'm just guessing at this point, but not taking throttle points to dirty carbs.

Revving up and down on her own at 60 mph could be dirty carbs surging, or a cylinder intermittently losing spark. When I got my 250 used, its carbs were dirty and I had noticeable surging at 55 mph. I assume when you said "revving up and down" you meant that you could feel the bike speeding up and slowing down on its own, as in surging.

The clunkiness at idle sounds like the typical clutch noise that old 250s develop. Does it get better if you pull in the clutch lever? It could also be cam chain noise.

Yep, acceleration surging. After some testing, it's been determined that the issue is with the charging system and a dying battery, so I've replaced the battery and have a new stator on the way. That's gonna be fun to replace...

I'm glad it's something you can repair within reason. Also, wish I were closer, because I'd totally help with replacing the stator; I did a complete engine and wiring harness swap on a 650R a few years back, and have also replaced stators.
You've put a lot of work into the bike, and she's awesome, so I'm glad that it was a cry for help and not a swan song. Looking forward to updates!
