Worth the risk?

Tomorrow is the day I officially make my new bike my own. Unfortunately having just gotten 6 inches of snow on monday our roads are covered in gravel and salt. I'm seriously considering trying to leave the bike at the dealer (if they'll let me) a few more days until things get better. That said, it's only a 20 minute ride across town, and i don't want to hassle them by leaving it there.

Thoughts?

Hassle them? You just bought a bike from them. I would think given the conditions of the road, they wouldn't have a problem with you leaving the bike a few more days. If they don't, cancel the check and never shop there again.

If you have a friend with a truck (assuming you don't have one) then you could just drive it home in the truck. But the dealer should certainly hold it for you, you just gave them a big chunk of change. It shouldn't hassle them either, I'm sure they would be happy to store it for you until the conditions get better.

Yeah they should be happy to store it for you, especially since you just payed for it. Cinders and gravel aren't something you should be riding around on, especially if you are a first time rider.

yeah, no trucks are readily available. Did that with my first bike though.

I guess there's really no reason for them mind holding on to it. They are super cool and I have a great relationship with them. This will be the second bike they've sold me.

Have them deliver it! I bought our first ninjette as a surprise for the wife while I was on a day off from work. Said that they had to have it in our garage within 2 hrs or no deal. Sale went quick!

I am all the way with Alex. Have they ever heard of a trailer? You bought the bike from them--the least they can do is to deliver.

I bought my NT-700 in Nov. The dealer offered to deliver the bike. The roads were clear and it was just plain cold. I was dressed for it and was fine. At least they offered. For the record: North Country H-D Honda is a class act--professional as it gets. They definitely have my business. They are in Augusta, Maine.

That's not a bad idea. When my brother bought his first bike there one of the sales guys personally delivered it to his house. I guess we'll see what they say tomorrow. We're supposed to get rain so I definitely won't be riding it anywhere.

That's their problem. That's why God made enclosed trailers.

just make sure if they deliver it, they don't ride it to your house and deliver a dirty motorcycle.

They're just gonna hang on to it for now. They were totally understanding about the weather and everything.

On a side note, while we were going over the bike at the time of sale we discovered it had green LED accent lights installed in the tail, engine compartment, and front forks. Evidently somebody cared more about how it looked than actually riding it. I'm not gonna complain though.

As a new roder, it's a very bad idea. Have them deliver it.

No, it's not worth the risk. Even after the snow has stopped falling there's going to be a lot of gravel and sand left over until the DPW sweeps it all up in mid-spring. This is the beginning of the most dangerous season for new riders. Don't be in such a hurry to ride that you ignore the potential risks of hitting a large patch of sand & gravel. It will still be everywhere on the roads for a while and it will take you down.

Forget it. Coming from a guy who rode in the snow before for few seasons. Any slight input can send your baby to ground, even if you walk it. Get someone who have truck go pick it up with you. But waiting's a better option if you can't get any help, if that they dont deliver.
