Rear Shock Modification
I have a Pregen.
I've taken the 13-17 Ninja 300 Knuckle/DogBones. I've shaved a few mm of the 07 GSXR 600 Rear Shock to mount Has anyone else done this mod? I am unsure what to type in the search bar to find the rest of the instructions. Thanks in advance. |

Hi and welcome!
I've found it's easiest to use Polaris # 5135275 adapters to reduce hole-size from 12mm to 10mm in frame & shock-linkages to use 10mm bolts from GSX-R. No hacking of frame or shock needed for plug-n-play installation (other than narrowing lower shock-eyelet). On 12mm threaded side of upper shock-mount, drill shallow 12mm hole to allow adapter to sit deeper and flush with surface. Check FB too. Need your help
I have already grounded it down and fit it, only thing I haven't been able to find exactly that's on this thread is how to space out the dog bones to not interfere with the rear shock. |

Use longer bolts, then add spacers/nuts on outside to widen dog-bones to clear spring.

Is the Ninja 300 rear shock just a drop in without the need for modification?
Is there any different between a 08-12 rear shock vs the 300? |

The EX500 shock is basically the same as the PreGen, but with a threaded preload adjuster and a much softer spring. The NewGen/300 shocks are a drop-in on the 500 (just a little bit longer), so they should fit the PreGen too.

I ended up swapping to a Ninja 300 rear shock. 20 min job super easy. For anyone who is thinking about doing the swap don't be afraid it's one of the easiest things I've done one the bike.
I haven't rode the bike yet after the swap but my GF has the same 07 250 as me and her's is stock. Mine has weight appropriate springs in the fork and the 300 shock in the rear, and her bike is like being on a rocking horse, the stock suspension is so bad. Maybe Santa will hook her bike up this winter. |

The EX500 comes with unusually soft springs, and I'm a bigger guy, so I completely agree with your sentiments. A cheap shock like from the NewGen/300 is basically just a respring in this case, but it's amazing to swap from something way off to something with the right spring rate. I went further (because I like to tinker), but just dropping in fork springs and a NewGen shock removed mushiness in corners while doing a better job absorbing bumps too.
